Carbon60 is recruiting a reliable and proactive Handyperson to support minor fabric maintenance, reactive repairs, and basic PPM activity across public-sector buildings in Dorset.

WORKING PATTERN: Full-time (Shifts and travel required)
THE ROLE: We are seeking a reliable and proactive Facilities Maintenance Operative / Fabric Technician to support the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of secure public sector facilities. The role involves carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), minor reactive repairs, general building fabric works, and assisting in maintaining safe, clean, and operational environments across multiple sites.
The successful candidate will have practical experience in general building maintenance, including basic plumbing, joinery, and fabric repairs, while demonstrating a strong awareness of health & safety procedures and customer service standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Undertake minor reactive fabric maintenance tasks issued through the helpdesk within agreed response times.
- Carry out proactive maintenance and low-level planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities.
- Complete basic plumbing, joinery, and general building fabric repairs.
- Perform Legionella monthly monitoring checks.
- Conduct daily building inspections internally and externally, reporting defects promptly.
- Assist technicians and supervisors with general maintenance activities as required.
- Support the completion and coordination of scheduled maintenance tasks.
- Maintain acceptable housekeeping standards, particularly within plant rooms and service areas.
- Assist with general grounds maintenance duties including litter picking, waste disposal, and external tidiness.
- Carry out gritting of walkways and entrances during adverse weather conditions to maintain safe access.
- Respond promptly to spillages, graffiti removal, and minor cleaning duties when required.
- Ensure all works are completed in line with company Health & Safety procedures, including COSHH, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
- Support the management and monitoring of subcontractor visits, ensuring compliance with site standards and safety requirements.
- Liaise professionally with site stakeholders and escalate concerns where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records and complete required documentation in a timely manner.
- Work flexibly across multiple sites and shifts where operationally required.
REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE
- Experience in general building maintenance, fabric repairs, plumbing, or joinery.
- Good understanding of health & safety practices within facilities maintenance environments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Willingness to travel between sites and work shifts where required.
- Full UK Driving Licence essential.
