M&E Technician

ROLE: M&E Technician (Building Maintenance Electrician)

Hours: Rotating each week between 7:00-15:30 and 10:00-18:30 with 30min unpaid break (40hrs per week)

PAYE temporary worker (inside IR35)

Craftsperson Lv1 (with a Lv2 qualification): £17.16ph

Craftsperson Lv2 (with a new Lv3 qualification): £18.38ph

Technician (experienced with a Lv3 qualification): £19.61ph

Compliance requirement of Basic DBS required due to hospital environment.

Fully compliant PAYE (no CIS).

Location - Southmead's Hospital

Duration - 31st August - 29th November

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Apply relevant trade skills to any allocated jobs as directed by the Supervisor or Manager.
  • Work alone with minimum supervision or within a team to carry out maintenance/repair of M&E services plant and equipment across the site. Work alone or in a team carrying out refurbishment and new works across the site.
  • To integrate and communicate effectively with other trade staff such as engineers particularly for M&E maintenance, new and remedial works.
  • Responsible for the safe operation, planned and reactive maintenance of M&E systems, associated plant/equipment installed throughout the site.
  • To carry out M&E works as required i.e. new works, refurbishment and capital works replacement programme.
  • To carry out M&E repairs and cleaning of M&E components and equipment as necessary.
  • To respond promptly and efficiently to plant breakdowns.
  • To undertake training and qualify as authorised or competent person for M&E plant and systems as required.
  • Required to participate in a rostered 24 hour on-call system providing emergency service during non-working hours, weekends and bank holidays.
  • To comply with statutory testing and inspection legislation (BS 7671).
  • Required to attend training programmes as necessary to meet contract requirements and for self-development purposes.
  • Immediately report any potentially dangerous situations for rectification to line manager and the NOC as appropriate
  • To carry out portable appliance testing (PAT).
  • To integrate and communicate effectively with the engineering and fabric maintenance function.
  • To prepare pressure vessels for insurance inspections and carry out necessary repairs/testing.
  • To maintain and carry out repairs on HVAC systems, gas appliances, piped medical gas systems, steam plant/equipment, catering and all other equipment in plant rooms, patient areas and other departments.
  • To undertake work such as electric/gas welding, operate drill/lathe and similar equipment for purposes of repair and fabrication of minor components in carrying out day to day repairs/maintenance and minor new works.
  • Required to attend training programmes as necessary to meet contract requirements and for self-development purposes.
  • Required to participate in over-time work from time to time as necessary to meet the requirements of the service.
  • To undertake duties of training and supervision of Operatives, Maintenance Assistants, Trainees and Apprentices as required.
  • To comply with Company Policies and Procedures.
  • To drive the company van as required.
  • To fulfil Health & Safety responsibilities by adherence to the requirements of the Company's Health & Safety Policy Statement, Manual and Safe Systems of Work and Risk Assessments.
  • To follow the Departmental Safety Policy, particularly with regard to approved Codes of Practice, Safe Systems of Work and Risk Assessments.
  • To support and practice the Company's Quality Policy and Mission Statement.
  • To follow the Company's Equal Opportunity Policies in relation to other staff, customers and members of the Group, at a level appropriate to the post
  • To undertake such other duties appropriate to the level and character of work as may reasonably be required within the Department.
