Mechanical Commissioning Engineer Data Centre Project - Finland Contract type: Freelance/self-employed contractor- site-based Duration: Approx. 6 months (with potential to extend, subject to project progress) Rotation: 17/4 rotation Start date: ASAP Rate: Day rate, dependent on experience Right to work: EU passport required We are seeking skilled and motivated Mechanical Commissioning Engineers to support our client's data centre project in Helsinki. This freelance opportunity sits within a wider hyperscale programme, working alongside the commissioning management team to deliver high-performance mechanical systems within a live, mission-critical environment. Candidates with prior experience on Microsoft data centre programmes are particularly encouraged to apply. What You'll Be Doing Commissioning Execution: Carry out commissioning activities across mechanical systems including HVAC, hydronic systems, smoke control, and building automation (BAS/BMS), working within the L1-L5 ASHRAE Commissioning framework as per data centre industry standards. System Validation: Perform functional testing, calibration, and performance verification of mechanical installations against design and operational standards, under the direction of the Commissioning Manager. Troubleshooting & Resolution: Identify issues arising during commissioning and work with engineers and contractors on-site to resolve them in a timely manner. Documentation: Maintain accurate test records and commissioning documentation, feeding into reports and supporting handover to the client. Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Commissioning Manager and wider project team, providing technical input and progress updates as required. What You'll Bring Experience: Proven experience in mechanical commissioning on commercial, industrial, or mission-critical projects. Sector Background: Data centre commissioning experience is essential; prior experience on Microsoft (or other hyperscale) data centre programmes is strongly preferred. Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, ductwork, VAVs, hydronics, and BMS. Drawings: Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and specifications. Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills and close attention to detail. Safety: A strong emphasis on safety throughout all site activities. Communication: Confident communicator, able to work independently as part of a wider on-site commissioning team. Availability: Available to start ASAP and commit to a 17/4 rotation for the duration of the project.
