Job Overview
Our client, a leading international real estate investor, seeks an experienced (real estate) accountant to perform a corporate accounting (oversight) role in their London office. The role will involve overseeing the statutory reporting, VAT and property management processes for approximately 50 propcos. Additionally, it will involve coordinating and reviewing VAT filings for European entities. In time the successful candidate will develop a working knowledge of fund accounting.
The successful candidate will likely have 6 to 8 years’ relevant experience and be working at a real estate investment firm, Big 4 audit firm or fund/corporate administration business. They will be a qualified accountant and ideally have some form of real estate experience.
A working knowledge of VAT is essential; you don’t need to be a tax expert – but a working knowledge is essential.
In return, my client will offer a competitive basic salary (up to a maximum of £85,000) + discretionary, performance-related bonus + benefits. They offer a hybrid working model, where they expect staff to be in the (London) office a minimum of 2 days a week.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for accurate statutory reporting and coordination of regulatory filings related to the property-holding companies owned by the Firm’s managed private real estate Funds and/or Separate Accounts.
- Assist in portfolio accounting and preparation of accurate US GAAP financial reporting of private real estate Funds and/or Separate Accounts with European investments.
- Coordinating and reviewing VAT filings for European entities.
- Maintaining VAT compliance standards at European level.
- Coordinating the process of filing annual accounts according to local GAAP (NL, UK and Luxembourg).
- Serving as primary point of contact between European offices and third-party accounting firms involved in the Firm’s portfolio.
- Reviewing third-party manager’s quarterly reports for the Fund’s and/or Separate Accounts’ properties to ensure compliance with the Firm’s property accounting policy and procedures.
- Reviewing all aspects of the financial operations of the assigned Fund and/or Separate Accounts and explain variances.
- Preparing the Fund’s and/or Separate Accounts’ quarterly financial statements to Investors.
- Overseeing annual external audit. Ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Reviewing year-end property reconciliation billings completed by the third-party managers.
- Assisting in the preparation of monthly cash forecasting reports for assigned Fund and/or Separate Account.
- Reviewing third-party manager’s property management fee billings charged to assigned Fund/Separate Account.
- Other duties as directed by the Vice President of Accounting.
