Location: London or Glasgow | Hybrid Working
Caravel Search is working with a fast-growing, specialist UK mortgage lender to appoint an Enterprise Risk Manager.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced risk professional looking to take the next step in their career, moving beyond a narrowly defined risk role into a position offering genuine ownership, autonomy and influence.
Our client has experienced significant growth in recent years and is continuing to expand within an attractive segment of the UK mortgage market. As the business scales, it is investing in its risk management capabilities, creating an opportunity for someone to take responsibility for the enterprise risk function and help shape its future development.
Unlike similar positions within larger financial institutions, this is a broad, hands-on appointment where you will have direct exposure to senior leadership, influence business decisions and see the tangible impact of your work.
For someone currently operating within a larger risk team, or looking for greater responsibility within a growing business, this could be a particularly attractive career move.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and continuously enhance the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, including risk appetite statements, risk registers and risk taxonomies.
- Oversee Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), working closely with business stakeholders to assess risks and evaluate control effectiveness.
- Prepare risk reporting, management information and committee papers, providing clear insight into the firm's principal risks.
- Support the operation and governance of the monthly Risk Committee, including tracking actions and escalating material issues.
- Oversee operational risk events, incidents, remediation activities and emerging risks.
- Maintain and develop operational resilience and business continuity arrangements, including scenario testing and third-party risk management.
- Provide oversight of data protection and information governance risks, including GDPR-related requirements.
- Promote a proactive risk culture, providing constructive challenge and practical guidance across the business.
Candidate Requirements
We are particularly interested in speaking with Enterprise Risk Managers, Operational Risk Managers or experienced risk professionals looking to take on broader responsibilities.
Essential experience includes:
- Strong practical experience in Enterprise Risk Management and Operational Risk within a UK-regulated financial services business.
- A background in lending, ideally gained within a bank, building society, mortgage lender or specialist lending institution.
- Experience managing risk frameworks, risk registers, RCSAs and risk reporting.
- Good understanding of risk governance, including preparing committee papers and engaging with senior stakeholders.
- The confidence and independence to manage risk activities within a relatively lean organisational structure.
Exposure to operational resilience, business continuity, outsourcing, Consumer Duty and data protection would be advantageous, although deep technical expertise across every discipline is not expected.
- Discretionary bonus comprising cash and growth shares
- 30 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
- Hybrid working from London or Glasgow
- Pension, healthcare-related benefits and additional employee benefits
Please note:
Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK without requiring employer visa sponsorship, either now or in the future.
