Overview
We’re working with a well-capitalised real estate debt fund that has recently launched a new bridging loans product and is expanding its underwriting team with a dedicated Bridging Underwriter. The firm has an established track record in property finance, with deep institutional backing and the resources in place to support ambitious growth. Their new bridging platform focuses on loans typically in the £1m – £10m range, with plans to scale the bridging loan book to around £200m in the coming years.
The Opportunity
This is a newly created role where you’ll take ownership of underwriting bridging loan applications across UK residential and commercial real estate. You’ll work closely with originators, credit committee members and external professionals, assessing and structuring loans from initial appraisal through to completion. It’s a hands-on role in a lean, collaborative team environment – ideal for someone who thrives on managing multiple live transactions and has the confidence to engage directly with borrowers, brokers, and professional advisors.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite bridging loan applications secured against UK commercial and residential property
- Carry out due diligence on borrowers, assets, planning, exit strategies and costs
- Analyse development feasibilities, financial models and borrower accounts
- Review valuation, QS and legal reports
- Prepare and present clear credit papers for committee approval
- Liaise with borrowers, brokers, lawyers and consultants throughout transactions
- Monitor post-completion matters including drawdowns and variations
About You
- At least 2 years’ experience in bridging or property credit underwriting
- Strong knowledge of the UK real estate market
- Confident analysing development feasibilities and borrower financials
- Comfortable working on multiple live deals at pace
- Strong written and verbal communication skills – concise credit writing is key
- Organised, self-motivated, detail-focused
- Familiarity with AML/KYC requirements
- Proficient in Excel and MS Office
