Car Planet is a fast-growing car supermarket and automotive retail business building and running our own in-house platforms — including Autogrid (our core Dealer Management System), plus supporting systems like Audiofy (call intelligence) and RoutePortal (logistics & routing).
We are looking for a senior, pragmatic software engineer to inspect, stabilise, and improve live, revenue-critical systems as the business scales. You will work hands-on with existing production systems to improve performance, reliability, and maintainability — without disrupting day-to-day operations.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Take ownership of an existing production codebase
- Identify technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and architectural risks
- Improve system stability, scalability, and maintainability incrementally
- Safely refactor critical areas without disrupting live operations
- Work across multiple internal systems:
- Primary ownership: Autogrid
- Secondary oversight: Audiofy & RoutePortal
What We’re Looking For
- Essential
- 5+ years professional software development experience
- Proven experience working on live production systems
- Full-stack JavaScript / TypeScript, Node, APIs, databases
- Python experience (scripting, services, tooling, data processing)
- Strong refactoring and system-improvement skills
- Comfortable in fast-moving, imperfect environments
- Able to work autonomously with strong judgement on priorities & risk
- C# / .NET experience
- Startup or scale-up background
- Technical leadership experience
- Experience across multiple internal products
The Package
Salary: £40,000 – £60,000 (DOE)
