We're now looking for a Senior Hardware & Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing team and support major UK projects in Energy Generation, Storage, and Transmission & Distribution.

The Role
As a Senior Hardware & Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a key role throughout the full project lifecycle from concept and detailed design to manufacture, testing and site implementation. You'll be responsible for producing high‐quality designs and engineering deliverables, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting the delivery of safety‐critical infrastructure across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and review engineering drawings: SLDs, KLDs, schematics, wiring diagrams, GAs, cable routing, termination schedules.
- Deliver electrical calculations, technical documentation, FDS, design intent documents and compliance matrices.
- Develop hardware test strategies, installation & test plans, and documentation for FAT/SAT.
- Integrate Protection & Control, Automation and Communications solutions (GE, Siemens, SEL, etc.).
- Support IEC 61850, substation communications and cyber‐security principles.
- Ensure compliance with ENA, BS, IEC and DNO/National Grid standards.
- Assist with design reviews, change control, risk identification and engineering progress updates.
- Support site surveys, installation, commissioning and client engagement.
Essential Experience
- Strong experience using E‐Plan, AutoCAD Electrical or similar.
- Proven background in secondary systems, hardware or LV design for HV substations (132kV–400kV).
- Knowledge of P&C panel design, LVAC/DC systems, UPS, instrumentation wiring and marshalling.
- Understanding of transmission‐level plant interfaces (CBs, CTs, VTs, disconnectors, transformers).
- Working knowledge of IEC 61850 and substation communication architectures.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in UK Transmission/Distribution P&C design.
- Site installation, testing or commissioning experience.
- Knowledge of BS7671, DSEAR, IEC 61508/61511.
- Understanding of SCADA/EMS/DMS systems and OT cyber security.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers.
- Working towards IEng/CEng.
