They are currently seeking an experienced and commercially minded Underwriter to join our client’s founding team and lead conversations with capacity providers. You’ll be central to shaping their underwriting strategy, growing their book, and establishing strong broker relationships as they scale rapidly into the second half of the year. Responsibilities:
- Lead the underwriting of complex SME construction risks.
- Build and manage relationships with brokers across the UK.
- Develop pricing, terms, and coverage strategies.
- Contribute to product development, appetite definition, and underwriting guidelines.
- Support the growth of our portfolio through proactive engagement with brokers and market stakeholders.
- Collaborate with leadership on business development, marketing, and operational initiatives as the company scales.
- Ensure compliance with FCA, Lloyd’s, and other regulatory frameworks.
Requirements:
- 5+ years’ experience in construction underwriting (contract works, liability, property, or related lines).
- Strong broker network and proven ability to generate new business.
- Solid technical underwriting skills, with the ability to assess complex risks and make sound commercial decisions.
- Knowledge of UK construction sector dynamics and emerging trends.
- Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to balance risk appetite with growth.
- ACII or progress towards qualification preferred.
Compensation and benefits:
