We're recruiting on behalf of a medical device company based in West Yorkshire. Small, engineering-led team with a delivery-focused culture and a full product development pipeline ahead of them.

This is a hands-on CAD-led contract role working on the design of precision mechanical components and mechanisms from concept through to manufacture. If you're a true engineer who likes to own problems and drive them to a manufacturable solution, this is worth a look.

The project involves joining an active NPD programme at concepting stage, working on a next generation medical device and its associated instrumentation. This summer is the key concepting phase, moving into detailed design by the end of it. The pipeline runs well beyond this project so there's a strong case for extension.

What you'll be doing:

  • Generating concepts and developing them into detailed designs in SolidWorks
  • Producing production-ready technical drawings to ASME Y14.5 (GD&T)
  • Designing mechanisms and small precision components through to assembly level
  • Applying DFM principles throughout — machined and moulded parts
  • Working closely with the internal team and external manufacturing partners
  • Iterating designs through prototyping, review and refinement

What we're looking for:

  • Strong, proven SolidWorks capability
  • A track record of designing small precision parts and mechanisms, concept to production
  • Solid GD&T and tolerancing competency (ASME Y14.5, GPS or BS888 considered)
  • DFM knowledge for machined and/or moulded components
  • Someone who hits the ground running with minimal onboarding
  • Based within commutable distance of West Yorkshire

Medical device experience is not required. They're open to strong designers from any sector. What matters is a genuine engineering background and a track record of delivery.
