Capture Stroke develops software that supports stroke services with clinical recording, therapy activity, reporting and audit. We work with healthcare teams to make information easier to capture and use, supporting their understanding of care delivery and service performance across the entire stroke pathway.
We’re looking for a Product Manager who can understand our customers’ needs, set clear priorities and work closely with design and development colleagues to deliver useful, measurable improvements.
The role
You will own the product roadmap and backlog, translating customer insight, clinical workflows and business objectives into clear requirements and achievable delivery plans.
A central part of the role will be building relationships with users across our customer organisations. You’ll visit services, observe how people use Capture Stroke and organise user forums to gather feedback, understand frustrations and explore what users would like the product to do.
You’ll turn those conversations into considered product decisions, balancing customer value, commercial opportunity, technical feasibility and delivery capacity. You’ll also keep customers informed about how their feedback has influenced priorities.
Ideally, you will have worked as a Product Manager for a SaaS business supplying solutions to NHS organisations.
What you’ll do
Understand customers and lead user engagement
- Build relationships with clinicians, therapy teams, service managers, reporting teams and other stakeholders.
- Visit customer sites to understand real workflows, local requirements and barriers to adoption.
- Plan, organise and facilitate user forums, both in person and online, bringing customers together to share experiences, feedback and wishes.
- Create agendas and activities that encourage useful discussion and participation from different roles and organisations.
- Explore the underlying needs behind feature requests and distinguish shared requirements from local preferences.
- Maintain a clear record of feedback, decisions and follow-up actions.
- Close the feedback loop by explaining what has been prioritised, what needs further investigation and the reasons behind decisions.
- Be responsible for Capture Strokes entry into the community care aspect of the stroke pathway.
Own product direction and priorities
- Work with the COO, CCO, CTO and wider team to establish product goals and maintain a clear, prioritised roadmap.
- Balance improvements to the existing product with new functionality and future opportunities.
- Combine customer feedback, support issues, usage information and commercial insight to guide priorities.
- Define the problem, intended users, expected benefit and success measures for each significant initiative.
- Make practical trade-offs between value, urgency, effort, dependencies and risk.
- Communicate priorities and changes clearly, setting realistic expectations internally and with customers.
- Work closely with or UI/UX designer to develop and validate workflows, prototypes and proposed solutions.
- Translate agreed priorities into clear requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Collaborate with developers on technical options, dependencies, scope and delivery sequencing within our .NET product.[JH1]
- Coordinate customer validation, release communication and supporting guidance with relevant colleagues.
Support adoption and commercial understanding
- Help customers understand and adopt relevant functionality.
- Work with customer-facing and commercial colleagues to identify product needs affecting retention, expansion and new business.
- Contribute product expertise to demonstrations and customer discussions.
- Develop an understanding of NHS stakeholders, decision-making, procurement and implementation constraints.
- Assess released improvements using customer feedback and agreed measures, then identify further changes as needed.
Essential skills and experience
- Experience managing a software product or a substantial product area, taking work from discovery through delivery and review.
- Evidence of turning customer problems into clear priorities and successful product improvements.
- Experience owning a roadmap and maintaining a prioritised backlog.
- Strong requirements-writing skills, including user stories and acceptance criteria.
- The ability to organise and confidently facilitate user forums, workshops and feedback sessions.
- Strong listening and stakeholder management skills, including handling competing requests and explaining difficult prioritisation decisions.
- Experience working closely with designers, developers and QA.
- Confidence discussing technical constraints, dependencies and delivery trade-offs.
- An analytical approach to assessing product performance and customer outcomes.
- Willingness and ability to travel nationally as required.
Preferred experience
- Product management experience at a SaaS provider supplying solutions to the NHS.
- Alternatively, product management experience within the NHS, particularly involving digital services or clinical systems.
- Understanding of clinical workflows, healthcare data, reporting and audit.
- Experience working with NHS clinical, operational, digital and procurement stakeholders.
- Establishing or developing customer user groups and using their input to shape product decisions.
- Experience improving adoption, usability and customer retention in an established software product.
- Knowledge of NHS Clinical Risk Management: DCB0129 and/or prior experience working with a Clinical Safety Officer.
What success looks like
In your first three months, you will aim to:
- Understand the product, customer base, business priorities and delivery process.
- Meet users across different roles and customer organisations.
- Establish a practical approach to user forums, with an initial session and documented follow-up.
- Create a clear view of customer needs and a prioritised roadmap agreed with the business.
- Progress an agreed improvement through discovery and delivery, with success measures established.
Over time, success will mean customers feel heard, the team understands its priorities and product improvements deliver demonstrable value. Relevant measures will include task completion time, recording effort, data quality, feature adoption and recurring support issues.
