Position Details

  • Salary: Grade 7 Pay Point 11-14, with a starting salary of £26,832, based on Pay Point 11 (Pending Pay Award Uplift for Support Staff).
  • Hours: 37 hours per week and 52 weeks per year.
  • Contract Type: Permanent.
  • Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 07:00-10:30 & 14:00-18:00.

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Premises Officer to be a proactive integrated member of the School Staff Team, responsible for the supervision of our site and the maintenance and security of our buildings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the management of cleaning staff (or contract if applicable), undertaking general maintenance, repairs and cleaning of the building and grounds.
  • Monitor stock levels of materials, order as necessary and store appropriately to ensure work can be carried out in accordance with laid down schedules and safety instructions.
  • Complete appropriate records and testing (e.g., maintenance file/heating/safety checks, order forms) as laid down in trust policies and procedures.
  • Open the grounds and school buildings and ‘unset’ alarms in accordance with laid down schedules and ‘one off’ bookings (lettings), to ensure that lessons and other activities are able to take place at the specified times.
  • Monitor the work of the cleaning staff to ensure the work undertaken by them meets the standards in the contract specification to ensure that the school gets value for money and remains a clean, safe, healthy and comfortable place for students, staff and other users.

Qualifications

  • Good level of literacy and numeracy.
  • NVQ level 2 or equivalent in numeracy and literacy (Desirable).

Experience

  • Craft skills, e.g. plumber, electrician and decorating or previous experience in a caretaking role including repairs and maintenance.
  • Working within a school setting.
  • Ability to liaise with external contractors including negotiating prices for small jobs.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Ability to alert senior staff to unsafe practices; understanding the context in which the schools are working.
  • Ability to undertake risk assessments in relation to premises function.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety issues relevant to the post including legislation and COSHH.
