Key Responsibilities

  • Help prepare, monitor and maintain a safe and secure learning environment in line with the teacher’s lesson plans.
  • Work under the direct supervision of a teacher to carry out planned learning activities with small groups or individual pupils, providing feedback on their engagement and achievement of learning objectives.
  • Encourage a high standard of behaviour, develop relationships with others and recognise and manage emotions appropriately.
  • Prepare and utilise ICT resources to support pupils’ learning.
  • Prepare and support the use of learning materials and create visual displays, in accordance with the teacher’s requirements, to facilitate a relevant physical learning environment.
  • Maintain a duty of care for all children attending the Extended Services wrap‑around care.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with children and the Extended Services provision teams.
  • Maintain communication with the Extended Services Support Lead and Deputy Lead.
  • Provide care and encouragement to children and young people with disabilities or special educational needs, supporting them to participate in activities and liaising, if required, with parents, carers and other professionals.

  • Experience working with children and a commitment to providing a safe and enjoyable childcare environment.
  • Experience in a play, childcare or out‑of‑school setting is essential.
  • Level 2 NVQ, CACHE qualification or working towards one is desirable.
  • Ability to create an inspirational and stimulating child‑centred play and care environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interaction skills with children, parents and colleagues.
