Principal Designer (CDM) & Health & Safety Advisor
Location: Birmingham or London
Salary: Up to £70k + package
About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Principal Designer (CDM) & Health & Safety Advisor to join a leading consultancy delivering complex, high-value projects across the UK.
You will work across sectors including Residential, Commercial, Education, Mixed-Use, and Fire Remediation projects , supporting schemes ranging from £5m to £50m+ . The role offers exposure to technically challenging projects where embedding health and safety and fire safety from design through construction is critical.
Key Responsibilities
Act as Principal Designer across large-scale, complex construction and fire remediation projects.
Produce CDM documentation, including Pre-Construction Information and Design Risk Registers.
Review contractor Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Construction Phase Plans.
Advise clients and project teams on CDM 2015 compliance, fire safety regulations, and best practice.
Conduct site visits and audits, providing actionable Health & Safety and fire safety recommendations.
Collate and maintain Health and Safety Files.
Support the wider Health & Safety team and act as a key point of contact for CDM/H&S and fire matters.
Contribute to business development, including client engagement and bid preparation.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
Proven experience as a Principal Designer on large-scale construction and fire remediation projects.
NEBOSH Construction qualification, CSCS card, and full UK driving licence.
Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations, fire safety, construction processes, and RIBA stages.
Excellent communication and organisational skills, able to manage workload proactively.
Desirable
Principal Designer CDM qualification.
Incorporated Member of the Association of Project Safety (MIPS).
Experience delivering Principal Designer Building Regulations projects.
