About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Designer (CDM) & Health & Safety Advisor to join a leading consultancy delivering complex, high-value projects across the UK. You will work across sectors including Residential, Commercial, Education, Mixed-Use, and Fire Remediation projects, supporting schemes ranging from £5m to £50m+. The role offers exposure to technically challenging projects where embedding health and safety and fire safety from design through construction is critical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Principal Designer across large-scale, complex construction and fire remediation projects.
  • Produce CDM documentation, including Pre-Construction Information and Design Risk Registers.
  • Review contractor Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Construction Phase Plans.
  • Advise clients and project teams on CDM 2015 compliance, fire safety regulations, and best practice.
  • Conduct site visits and audits, providing actionable Health & Safety and fire safety recommendations.
  • Collate and maintain Health and Safety Files.
  • Support the wider Health & Safety team and act as a key point of contact for CDM/H&S and fire matters.
  • Contribute to business development, including client engagement and bid preparation.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Principal Designer on large-scale construction and fire remediation projects.
  • NEBOSH Construction qualification, CSCS card, and full UK driving licence.
  • Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations, fire safety, construction processes, and RIBA stages.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, able to manage workload proactively.

Desirable

  • Principal Designer CDM qualification.
  • Incorporated Member of the Association of Project Safety (MIPS).
  • Experience delivering Principal Designer Building Regulations projects.
