Job Description

Freelance Quantity Surveyor


  • Day rate: £420/day (outside IR35)
  • Hybrid working: 2–3 days per week in Barrow
  • Contract expected to run for 12 months
  • Immediate or short-notice availability preferred


We are looking for an experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor to support a major defence sector project based in Barrow-in-Furness. This is a 12-month contract role, operating outside IR35, and requires regular on-site attendance (2–3 days per week). The ideal candidate will bring strong NEC contract experience and be able to obtain UK Security Clearance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide full commercial management on projects using the NEC suite of contracts
  • Monitor, value, and manage subcontractor accounts
  • Prepare and issue payment applications, cost reports, and financial forecasts
  • Assist with contract administration, early warnings, and compensation events
  • Support client reporting and liaison with stakeholders across disciplines
  • Ensure compliance with all contractual, commercial, and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to cost control, procurement, and risk management activities


Requirements:

  • Demonstrable experience as a Quantity Surveyor on projects using NEC contracts
  • Previous work on defence or similarly regulated sectors (highly desirable)
  • Eligible for or currently hold UK Security Clearance (SC level)
  • Strong understanding of contract law, commercial management, and cost control
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
