The Division
Our Real Estate Division acts for NHS organisations, local government, independent health and social care providers, emergency services providers and primary healthcare providers (GPs, dentists and pharmacists). We are consistently ranked in the top tier in the Legal 500 and Chambers UK directories for Healthcare. Our expertise sets us apart from the competition. Our purpose is to deliver results that matter. We are proud to be the firm of choice for organisations who work to make a difference. We are committed to putting people first, doing the right thing, and forward thinking.
The Role and Responsibilities
Our Property Litigation team, based within our Real Estate department, is seeking a Senior Associate (4PQE+) to join our rapidly growing team.
- Support a varied range of high quality work which makes a positive difference to clients, including advising on restrictive covenants and easements for site disposals, 1954 Act security of tenure and lease renewals, court action to remove a ‘bed blocker’ for an NHS trust, removal of squatters from a central London property, court proceedings and arbitrations involving GP partnership disputes, multi‑million pound dilapidations disputes, break notices to facilitate estate re‑organisation, judicial review of a planning decision for development of a clinical unit, recovery of arrears from commercial tenants, and working with a brilliant range of well‑known organisations continuously in the public eye.
- Flexibility by default – work from home or the office (at least one day per week preferred but no hard rules) and with core hours policy. Applicants seeking flexible working (e.g., part time, staggered hours) welcomed.
- 1,350 hours billable hours target (FTE) with two types of bonus scheme: a profit‑share scheme that applies when chargeable hours targets are exceeded, and a discretionary scheme rewarding achievements in other areas including CSR and business development.
- Training and development. Property litigation experience is essential; public sector and partnership disputes experience is desirable but not vital.
- Opportunity to collaborate with knowledgeable colleagues in other teams and to work in all the firm’s sectors: health, housing, primary care, Local Government and emergency services.
Skills and Experience
- Excellent legal and communication skills, enthusiasm for the firm and our work, and commitment to Capsticks’ values.
- Deliver clear advice and practical recommendations to clients. Common sense and willingness to learn and try new things.
- Balance of supervision and autonomy to help gain satisfaction in helping clients and in personal development.
- Client handling and business development skills; providing constructive supervision to develop upcoming juniors.
