Governance & Risk Coordinator – Capsticks LLP
Capsticks LLP is looking for an entry‑level Governance & Risk Coordinator to support the development and maintenance of effective risk management and compliance standards across the firm’s five offices.
Location & Working Arrangements
Hybrid working – Birmingham or London. The role supports the Governance & Risk (G&R) team, reporting to the Governance & Risk Head of Operations.
Role Overview
The Coordination role is hands‑on and collaborative, providing a foundation for a career in legal compliance. The Coordinator will work across the two G&R teams – Operations and Complaints & Claims – gaining a broad understanding of all compliance activities and taking ownership of key divisional processes.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Data management – logging, tracking and monitoring queries, presenting information in an easily understandable format.
- Information barriers – setting up and managing barriers within the case management system and handling ad‑hoc file access requests.
- Compliance queries – assisting with research and drafting responses to routine queries on SRA compliance, conflicts, AML, information security incidents, data breaches and third‑party complaints.
- Training – managing the compliance training platform and monitoring completion of compulsory online training.
- Committee papers – preparing reports and papers for various Committees.
- Governance & Risk profile – supporting the department’s work with compliance champions by preparing information for division meetings and participating in meetings.
- GDPR compliance – assisting with subject access and data deletion requests.
- Audits – assisting with external audits, internal audits for accreditations and monitoring corrective actions.
- Policy review – drafting new policies, updating current policies and procedures.
- Internal communications – circulating compliance alerts and updates.
- Ad‑hoc projects – supporting firm‑wide projects that require Governance & Risk input.
Skills & Experience
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Preferably educated to degree standard.
- Previous work experience in a law firm or professional services firm desirable.
- Ability to work calmly under pressure, manage deadlines and internal client expectations.
- A self‑motivated proactive approach and ability to manage your own workload.
- Demonstrable team experience.
- Problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Willingness to share ideas and suggest improvements.
- Willingness to learn about new subject areas and new skills.
- Ability to tailor communications to different audiences.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, data manipulation).
- Willingness to travel to other offices as needed.
