We are an FCA-registered Small Payment Institution (SPI) facilitating cross-border remittances from the UK to African corridors, including Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Gambia, and Cameroon. We are seeking an experienced and highly capable MLRO to lead the Firm’s AML/CTF and sanctions compliance framework, acting as the nominated officer under the Money Laundering Regulations 2017 and the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
This is a critical leadership role requiring strong independent oversight, regulatory engagement capability, and deep understanding of financial crime risks in cross-border remittance flows. The MLRO will ensure a robust, effective, and scalable financial crime framework aligned with UK regulatory expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and maintain a risk-based AML/CTF and sanctions framework aligned with MLRs, POCA, OFSI, JMLSG Guidance, and FCA expectations
- Act as Nominated Officer overseeing SAR processes, internal reporting, and engagement with the NCA
- Oversee transaction monitoring, CDD/EDD, sanctions screening, and ongoing monitoring frameworks
- Serve as primary contact with the FCA and lead regulatory engagements
- Provide governance oversight, board reporting, and support the Three Lines of Defence model
- Manage financial crime risk assessments, policies, and control frameworks
- Oversee outsourced AML/CTF activities and third-party compliance
- Promote compliance culture and deliver AML/CTF training
Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in AML/CTF and sanctions within payments, fintech, or e-money institutions
- Strong knowledge of MLRs, POCA, OFSI regime, JMLSG Guidance, and FCA expectations
- Experience with transaction monitoring, SAR processes, NCA engagement, and FCA interaction
- Proven ability to lead AML/CTF frameworks in regulated environments
- Strong understanding of UK-Africa remittance risks
