Are you an engineer who loves making things work better for other engineers? Do you care about efficiency and continuous improvement? Join our team and help us redefine the way software is delivered at Capital One.
In this role, you aren’t just writing code or managing infrastructure; you are a force-multiplier for our engineering teams. You will sit at the intersection of software engineering and community advocacy. You’ll spend your time getting hands-on with the code that powers software delivery at Capital One, while simultaneously acting as a bridge by gathering feedback from our UK Tech organisation and sharing good engineering practices across the business. You’ll be joining a passionate and diverse team on a mission to reduce engineering frustration and accelerate software delivery.
What you’ll do:
- Support and enhance the adoption and enablement of continuously evolving software delivery lifecycle platforms.
- Operate beyond the IDE - We don’t just solve problems with code, we continuously strive for the right solutions to our customers’ problems, not just build tools and features.
- Deliver core engineering features and improvements that engineers in the UK and US consume on a daily basis to deliver software at Capital One.
- Continued support, maintenance and development of our core systems, enhancing our internal Customers’ journeys on their path to CI/CD.
- Enhance our AWS deployment and validation mechanisms.
- Build relationships and influence with platform owning teams to support prioritisation and inner sourcing opportunities.
- Partner with Capital One teams in the US to innersource contributions to internal developer tools.
- Within Developer Experience you operate as a Developer Advocate. You will build a network of connections across engineering, to allow you to hear about friction and opportunities to work with teams on improving the developer experience.
What we’re looking for:
- Great communicator, willing to get involved, talk to our customers, share ideas, teach and lead among peers.
- You’re happy working across a variety of technologies and platforms to identify and solve complex problems working up and down the technology stack.
- You really care about making a difference to each and every developer’s experience.
- You bring an analytical mindset with a clear focus on delivering value for both the organisation and our customers inline with stakeholder expectations.
- Experience with the concepts of infrastructure as code and CI/CD.
- Strong programming skills in one or more languages (such as Java or TypeScript).
- Solid understanding of Amazon Web Services (AWS) or alternative cloud platforms.
- You’re a stickler for efficiency and effectiveness.
Where And How You’ll Work:
This is a permanent position based in our Nottingham office. We have a hybrid working model which gives you flexibility to work from our offices and from home. We’re big on collaboration and connection, so you’ll be based in our Nottingham office 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
What’s In It For You:
- Bring us all this and you’ll be rewarded with a role contributing to the product roadmap for an organisation committed to transformation.
- We’re continuing our journey into the public cloud and have problems of scale, security, availability and performance for you to help solve.
- We love continuous learning and that’s why we give you 10% of your time to work on cutting edge innovative projects that shape the way we will work in the future.
- We offer high performers strong and diverse career progression, investing heavily in developing great people through our Capital One University training programmes (and appropriate external providers).
- Immediate access to our core benefits including pension scheme, bonus, generous holiday entitlement and private medical insurance – with flexible benefits available including season-ticket loans, cycle to work scheme and enhanced parental leave.
- Open-plan workspaces and facilities designed to inspire and support you. Our Nottingham head-office has a fully-serviced gym, subsidised restaurant, mindfulness and music rooms. In London, you can heighten your mood with a run on our rooftop running track or an espresso at the Workshop Coffee café.
