Capital One is on a mission to be a force for good in lending. Helping us to achieve this is our amazing bunch of associates. And how we communicate with them is a huge part of that. The Internal Communications team tells the Capital One story, delivers and amplifies our culture explainers and is laser sharp on the associate voice. We help to create a world which associates fall in love with, thrive in, and keep coming back to, time and time again. We’re delighted to be recruiting for a talented Internal Communications Business Partner to help us on this journey.
What does this role entail?
- Strong storytelling skills - As a comms business partner, you’ll be taking big, complex projects/updates, and meeting associates where they are, with simple, yet beautifully crafted pieces of multichannel comms to help them on the journey. You’ll be owning the strategy and stakeholder management, through to the delivery of the comms assets. It’s broad and your storytelling will have a lot of impact across all areas of the business.
- Exceptional channel knowledge - Our comms are two-way, accessible, transparent, and often digital or event focused - and at the heart of everything - purpose led. You’ll be working on lots of in-person events, writing all-associate emails, drafting, delivering and editing podcasts and videos and stakeholder briefing packs.
- Culture creator - When you’re not partnering with the senior leadership team on a piece of comms, asking them to help you land it in their teams, you’ll be creating memory-making events. From summer festivals to end of year celebrations, you’ll be creating culture moments that people remember for the rest of their careers.
- Let the numbers talk for themselves - We’re a fintech and so numbers matter to us. Purpose led, and human connection is important stuff, but being able to back it up the value with analytics and data is also great. You’ll spend part of your time reviewing the impact of work and tracking feedback to ensure you’re talking the right language.
- You’ll get to know associates better than they know themselves - Over time, you’ll get to know associates, and how to land a message with them in the way that resonates most with them. You will build a clear understanding of the associate voice by working closely with our Business Resource Groups, UK Leadership Team and many other stakeholders. People are important here and your understanding of them will help you to deliver in your role.
- Content management - You’ll be engaging associates with weekly content, making sure they’re up to date with what’s happening in the business and how we’re tracking against our strategy.
- AI - You’ll use Gemini across your role, think of it as your own personal assistant, helping you to work smarter and more efficiently.
The heroes that are around you - You’ll be part of the Internal Communications team, which is currently made up of two Internal Communication Business Partners and a Head of Internal Communications. The team sits alongside HR Business Partners, and Learning, Development and Performance, all wrapped up within the People Strategy Team. We weren’t joking when we said we’re people focused, we have a full team, dedicated to creating an incredible experience for them.
What we’re looking for
- Significant experience within a similar internal comms role
- An outstanding and engaging communicator
- Exceptional storytelling skills
- Strong event creation, copy writing delivery, and podcast and video production experience
- Positive attitude and a willingness to learn
- Top people skills
- Experience of working in a busy environment, managing multiple deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
Where and how you'll work - This is a permanent position based in our Nottingham office, with the occasional trip to our London office. We work in the office 3 days a week - on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. These make up our core office days. When we come together, there’s an undeniable energy. We work at a faster pace, break down more barriers and achieve and celebrate more together. We have Mondays and Fridays as work from home days and as optional in-office days, that can count towards our three days in the office if we ever need that added bit of flexibility. Many of our associates have flexible working arrangements, and we're open to talking about an arrangement that works for you.
We’re committed to creating a level playing field and seek to create teams that are representative of our customers and the communities we serve. We’d love to hear from you if you identify with a typically under-represented group in our industry and are particularly keen to hear from women, the LGBTQ+ community and ethnic minority candidates.
What’s in it for you - Bring us all this - and you’ll be rewarded with a role contributing to the roadmap of an organisation committed to transformation and positive impact. Remember, we’re on a mission to be a force for good in lending.
- We offer high performers strong and diverse career progression, investing heavily in developing great people through our Capital One University training programmes (and appropriate external providers)
- Immediate access to our core benefits including pension scheme, bonus, generous holiday entitlement and private medical insurance – with flexible benefits available including season-ticket loans, cycle to work scheme and enhanced parental leave
- Open-plan workspaces and accessible facilities designed to inspire and support you. Our Nottingham head-office has a fully-serviced and free to use gym, subsidised restaurant, mindfulness and music and games rooms. In London, you can heighten your mood with a run on our rooftop running track, breakfast on us from the many kitchen hubs around the office, or an espresso at the Workshop Coffee café.
What you should know about how we recruit - We pride ourselves on hiring the best people, not the same people. Building diverse and inclusive teams is the right thing to do and the smart thing to do. We want to work with top talent: whoever you are, whatever you look like, wherever you come from. We know it’s about what you do, not just what you say. That’s why we make our recruitment process fair and accessible. And we offer benefits that attract people at all ages and stages. We also partner with organisations including the Women in Finance and Race At Work Charters, Stonewall and upReach to find people from every walk of life and help them thrive with us. We have a whole host of internal networks and support groups you could be involved in, to name a few:
- REACH – Race Equality and Culture Heritage group focuses on representation, retention and engagement for associates from minority ethnic groups and allies
- OutFront – to provide LGBTQ+ support for all associates
- Mind Your Mind – signposting support and promoting positive mental wellbeing for all
- Women in Tech – promoting an inclusive environment in tech
- EmpowHER - network of female associates and allies focusing on developing future leaders, particularly for female talent in our industry
