About this role

As the Head of UK Compliance Testing and Assurance, reporting into the UK Chief Compliance Officer (CCO), you will lead the Compliance Testing and Assurance Team and will be responsible for ensuring the effective operation of the Capital One UK Testing and Assurance program.

You will support the UK CCO by designing and executing an effective Testing and Assurance Program that includes: Independent Compliance Transaction Testing (ICTT), Compliance Control Reviews (CCR), Product and Process Level Assessments, and assessment of Business Change, all that builds in the appropriate oversight of Compliance Risks. You will ensure the UK Business adheres to regulatory requirements and that internal processes and controls are appropriately designed and executed to mitigate Compliance Risk.

You will lead a team of Compliance Professionals across Testing and Assurance as well as being part of the broader Compliance Leadership Team.

What you\’ll do

  • Support the Chief Compliance Officer and UK Money Laundering Reporting Officer
    Provide effective support to the Chief Compliance Officer (SMF-16) and to the MLRO (SMF17) in ensuring the Compliance function delivers an effective Compliance Testing and Assurance program which appropriately mitigates Compliance risk for Capital One UK
  • Monitoring, Testing and Assurance
    Responsible for designing and delivering the Testing and Assurance Compliance program, and ensure the program
    • Reflects and incorporates the outcomes of the Compliance Risk Assessment.
    • incorporates proportionate and considered insights on Capital One\’s Compliance risk profile
    • is oriented to solutions to mitigate Compliance risk and enhances the design and operating effectiveness of processes and controls
    • is communicated with relevant business partners and stakeholders clearly and comprehensively; and
    • is fully compliant with applicable Capital One processes and procedures and builds in best practices
  • Business strategy and Compliance risk
    Ensure the Testing and Assurance team (as a second line of defence function) understand and drive the compliant delivery of business strategy, and support the identification, assessment, and mitigation of Compliance risk, both generally and by their involvement in Capital One\’s internal processes and controls
  • Independent adviser and challenger
    Ensure effective independent advice and challenge is provided across core risk assessments (Process Level Assessments, Product Level Assessments, Risk and Control Self Assessments) and business change processes
  • People leadership and talent development
    Leadership of a team of Compliance professionals, and broader leadership within the Compliance function. Partnering with the CCO and MLRO to ensure the Compliance team achieves their potential and talent is invested in and grown appropriately
  • Compliance culture
    Ensure the team\’s culture is in line with the Compliance Vision and Values, and in particular, is collaborative, embraces feedback, and provides an open, and inclusive environment in which team members can thrive

What we\’re looking for

  • Strong experience in Risk Management, Risk Assessments and Assurance activities, ideally in a regulated Financial Services firm
  • Understanding of key regulations that impact a regulated Financial Services firm, including : Consumer Duty, SYCS, CONC, DISP, AML and GDPR
  • Significant experience in assessing business risks in relation to Compliance and the ability to identify, design, and execute a risk-based testing agenda
  • Excellent verbal presentation and written communication skills to confidently interact at all levels of the organisation and to crisply articulate Compliance Risk
  • An experienced People Leader who creates energy and an environment that fosters trust, collaboration, and belonging and pushes people to reach their full potential
  • An inquisitive mind, who embraces and promotes change by challenging conventional thinking and identifying new ways of working.
  • Someone who can develop influential relationships based upon shared objectives and trust to deliver business impact and deliver on the Compliance vision

This is a permanent position based in our Nottingham office.

We have a hybrid working model, so you\’ll be based in our office 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and can work from home on Monday and Friday.
