Our Mission: We're on a mission to be a force for good in lending. Throughout our almost 30-year history, we've consistently been recognised as a great place to work; in 2026, Capital One was officially ranked 9th in the UK's Best Workplaces™ list.
About the Role: We're not your typical bank. We started with a simple mission: to Change Banking for Good. Central to this mission is our Finance team. We are looking for a visionary leader to join us as our Head of UK Card Accounting. If you're a strategic financial leader who cares just as much about developing people as you do about robust balance sheets, we want to hear from you.
As the Head of UK Card Accounting (Senior Manager level), you will be the driving force behind our financial integrity and a key player in the UK Finance Leadership Team. You will lead, inspire, and grow a talented team responsible for all internal and external financial reporting for our UK Card business.
This isn't a role where you'll just be maintaining the status quo. You will bring a strategic mindset to the numbers, helping to translate complex financial data into actionable insights for the wider business while fostering an inclusive, high-performance culture.
What you'll do:
- Lead and Inspire: Manage and nurture the UK Card Accounting team. You'll be deeply invested in talent development, succession planning, and creating an environment where everyone can do the best work of their careers.
- Drive Financial Excellence: Oversee the end-to-end delivery of robust internal and external financial reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Think Strategically: Partner with senior stakeholders across the business to provide commercial context, evaluate strategic initiatives, and influence business-critical decisions.
- Champion Continuous Improvement: Drive the evolution of our financial processes and controls, leveraging technology (including AI tools) to automate, streamline, and mitigate risk.
- Collaborate as a Leader: Work closely with the UK CFO and other Finance leaders to help shape the broader culture, strategy, and vision of Finance at Capital One UK.
The skills and experience you need:
- A Proven Track Record: You are a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience, ideally within Financial Services or a similarly regulated environment.
- People-First Leadership: You have a passion for leadership. You know how to build, motivate, and coach a diverse team, unlocking their potential and fostering collaboration.
- Strategic Vision: You can effortlessly zoom out from the technical details to see the bigger picture, connecting financial performance to overall business strategy.
- Excellent Communication: You can distill complex accounting concepts into clear, concise narratives for both financial and non-financial executives.
- A Growth Mindset: You welcome change, thrive in a dynamic environment, and are always looking for ways to do things better.
Where and how you'll work:
This is a permanent position based in our Nottingham office. We embrace a hybrid approach to work. You'll spend three days a week in the office (Tuesday-Thursday), with Monday and Friday being dedicated work-from-home days.
Our offices are designed to inspire and support you. At our Nottingham head office, you'll find an on-site gym, restaurant and dedicated Learning Loft.
What's in it for you:
We invest in the growth of our people alongside our business. You will have extensive opportunities to learn and develop your career, including access to up to £5,000 in funding for external qualifications.
In addition to career development, our comprehensive benefits package is designed to grow with you, ensuring your wellbeing is prioritised at every stage of your career:
- Wealth & Future: Competitive pension and performance-based bonus schemes
- Holidays: Start with 25 days of annual leave, increasing with tenure. Need more? You have the option to buy 5 additional days.
- Health: Access premium care through our private medical insurance.
- Family Support: We champion your milestones with enhanced parental leave.
We pride ourselves on hiring the best people, not the same people. Building diverse and inclusive teams is the right thing to do and the smart thing to do. We value diversity, inclusion and belonging at our core. We empower our associates to do great work by creating an inclusive culture-one that values diverse perspectives, fosters collaboration and encourages innovative ideas-and a place where associates of all backgrounds can thrive by bringing their most authentic selves to work.
