About this role
Capital One (Europe) plc is recruiting a Head of UK Card Products Legal, which is a new and senior role within its Legal, Governance and External Affairs team. You'll report to the Head of Legal, Governance and External Affairs and lead a team providing legal support across all aspects of the customer journeys and products provided by Capital One, including marketing, lending, payments and customer support. The team will also be responsible for advising on financial crime and managing disputes and litigation on behalf of COEP. You will be joining Capital One at an exciting time as we innovate and explore new products: this team will be at the forefront of supporting the business to grow and deliver for its customers.
What you'll do
- Build strong partnerships with Marketing, Customer Acquisition, Operations, Customer Strategy leaders to understand our business strategy and support their teams to navigate risks and opportunities.
- Lead on, and support your experienced team, to advise partners across the business on the full suite of legal and regulatory requirements impacting a consumer credit business, particularly in relation to marketing, lending, payments, customer servicing, fraud and open banking and consumer duty.
- Oversee dedicated litigation, disputes and financial crime legal teams to deliver exceptional legal support, be well managed and deliver good business outcomes.
- Support COEP's Executive Management and Board teams to understand relevant legal requirements.
- Lead on supporting the business to develop and launch new products and/or product changes.
- Develop your team to be able to navigate change driven by innovation, technology and market changes.
- Support your team and work with third parties to ensure that horizon scanning is undertaken, and lead the team to partner with compliance and risk teams to manage legal and regulatory change, keeping the business up to date on ready to meet new expectations.
- Instruct and manage outside counsel relationships where needed.
- Be a core part of the LGEA Leadership team, working with other leaders to build an engaged and effective team across its breadth of responsibilities.
- Partner closely with Heads of Compliance, business Risk Office and MLRO.
- Maintain and develop a strong external network across industry and other external stakeholders.
- Own your own development and support the development of others within the business through gathering feedback, coaching and mentoring.
What we're looking for
- Qualified solicitor with significant experience of leading legal support for complex product launches or regulatory change in a comparable financial services environment.
- Detailed knowledge of, and experience navigating, consumer lending, payments and open banking related legal and regulatory requirements is essential.
- Experience of advising on issues in the context of consumer duty is essential.
- Experience of interacting with UK regulators, particularly FCA, is preferred.
- Experience of interacting and building relationships with c-suite level roles is preferred.
- Experience of building and leading teams is essential.
- Enthusiasm and experience of navigating legal, regulatory and technology change.
- Confidence in quickly developing commercial understanding of a business, and demonstrating strategic thinking and strong problem solving skills is essential.
- Excellent workload management skills, with an ability to work in a fast paced environment, and flexibility to adapt to our changing business needs.
- Excellent written and verbal communications, tailoring content and style to the audience as needed, and ability to coach team to develop their own approaches.
Where and how you'll work
This is a permanent position based in either our Nottingham or London offices. We embrace a hybrid approach to work. You'll spend three days a week in the office (Tuesday-Thursday), with Monday and Friday being dedicated work-from-home days. Our offices are designed to inspire and support you. At our Nottingham head office, you'll find an on-site gym, restaurant and dedicated Learning Loft. Our London office boasts a rooftop running track and coffee bar.
