We're Capital on Tap. Capital on Tap started because small businesses were underserved. Big banks were slow, their products weren't fit for purpose, and small business owners often couldn't access what they needed. We set out to fix that. Today we're a financial platform - not just a credit card company. We offer a best-in-class business credit card, SME-focused spend management platform, a savings product that hit £1 billion in funds within its first year, and a growing suite of tools and financial products that make running a small business easier. 1,000+ employees, £20bn in annual card spend, 200,000+ customers, 17,000+ Trustpilot reviews averaging 4.7 stars, and we're profitable. We’ve done a pretty good job so far, but we’re just getting started!
Why Join Us? We empower you to be innovative and solve complex problems. Take ownership, make an impact, and thrive in our scaling and agile environment. This is a hybrid role, based from our London (Moorgate) office 3 days per week.
About the Role: The Platform Engineering department has grown significantly- six workstreams, soon to be eight, comprising 30 software engineers. Yet until now, it has operated without a single dedicated Product Manager. That changes with this hire. This is a rare greenfield opportunity to build product thinking into a department that underpins everything Capital on Tap ships. You will be the first PM embedded in Platform Engineering, working across our Cloud & Platform Operations and Developer Experience groups to introduce the product rigour, feedback loops, and iterative practices that will transform the department from a cost centre into a recognised driver of engineering velocity. You will work closely with the Head of Platform Engineering, Engineering Managers, and Lead Engineers across the department.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Own the Platform roadmap: Work with engineering leadership to build and communicate a coherent, prioritised roadmap across Platform Engineering groups, replacing fragmented team-by-team planning with a unified, customer-informed direction.
- Drive system reliability: Audit incident history, establish baseline reliability metrics (MTTD, MTTR, MTBF), and work with the Engineering Manager to introduce SLOs and error budgets.
- Build feedback loops: Establish structured, repeatable mechanisms for collecting qualitative and quantitative feedback from Platform Engineering's internal customers (Product Engineering teams).
- Introduce iterative delivery: Break down long-running projects into iterative milestones. Challenge perfectionism where it delays value.
- Measure and communicate ROI: Define and own a framework for measuring Platform ROI (developer hours saved, infrastructure savings, self-service adoption).
- Champion self-service: Identify opportunities to build golden paths and self-service tooling, reducing manual toil, improving developer experience, and freeing engineering capacity for high-value work.
- Be the translation layer: Act as the bridge between Platform Engineering and the wider business, making the department's priorities and progress visible, and articulating why they matter.
We're Looking For:
- Proven product management experience: ideally with exposure to platform, infrastructure, or developer tooling environments.
- Strong commercial instinct: you understand how platform decisions connect to business outcomes.
- A user-first mindset: applied to internal customers; you understand that software engineers are users too.
- Experience introducing product practices into teams or departments where they didn't previously exist.
- Data-driven prioritisation: you can define success metrics and interpret reliability data.
- Collaborative communication style: Effectively align engineering leaders and product peers. Demonstrate a proven ability to manage complex, cross-team deliverables for system upgrades, including planning, aligning stakeholders.
- Familiarity with agile delivery practices and iterative project management.
- Bonus points for experience with metrics: (DORA, DX Core 4, SPACE), incident management frameworks, developer experience (DevEx) tooling, or cloud infrastructure concepts.
