We’re Capital on Tap 👋💳 Capital on Tap started because small businesses were underserved. Big banks were slow, their products weren't fit for purpose, and small business owners often couldn't access what they needed. We set out to fix that. Today we're a financial platform - not just a credit card company. We offer a best-in-class business credit card, SME-focused spend management platform, a savings product that hit £1 billion in funds within its first year, and a growing suite of tools and financial products that make running a small business easier. 1,000+ employees, £20bn in annual card spend, 200,000+ customers, 17,000+ Trustpilot reviews averaging 4.7 stars, and we're profitable. We’ve done a pretty good job so far, but we’re just getting started!

Your first step into Engineering Leadership

Are you a strong .NET engineer who's been the go-to person on your team? The one others come to for guidance, code reviews, or a second opinion? Have you found yourself mentoring junior colleagues, running standups, or quietly holding a project together? If you're ready to make that role official, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for. We're looking for someone who is technically excellent and people-driven; you don't need a string of management titles behind you, but you do need the hunger to lead, the empathy to develop others, and the credibility to earn your team's trust from day one.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Growing into the leadership seat
  • Taking ownership of a small, talented engineering team; setting the tone for quality, collaboration, and accountability
  • Providing mentorship and constructive feedback that helps engineers level up, something you've likely been doing informally already
  • Building the habits and rituals that keep a team aligned: standups, retros, 1-to-1s, and clear communication across remote and in-person settings
  • Staying close to the code
  • Remaining hands-on in software development; this isn't a role where you disappear into meetings
  • Upholding coding standards and best practices, and guiding engineers through technical challenges at a peer level
  • Collaborating with Tech Leads and the Engineering Manager on technical direction, architecture, and continuous improvement
  • Bridging engineering and the business
  • Working closely with Product Managers, QA, and Designers to translate ideas into well-delivered outcomes
  • Contributing to product decisions and helping the team understand the wider context behind what they're building
  • Spotting risks early and addressing them before they derail delivery

What We're Looking For

  • You're ready to lead — even if you haven't held the title yet
  • You've mentored colleagues, upskilled those around you, or stepped up informally in a previous role
  • You're a strong communicator who can bring clarity to ambiguous situations
  • You care about people's development as much as your own
  • You're technically solid
  • Extensive commercial experience with C# / .NET / .NET Core and ideally some exposure to React
  • Comfortable with RESTful API design and working in Azure cloud environments
  • Proficient in SQL and a genuine advocate for code quality; unit and integration testing aren't an afterthought for you
  • Grounded understanding of scalable system architecture and modern development practices

Interview Process

  • Stage 1: 30 minute intro call with a Talent Partner
  • Stage 2: 60 minute technical interview with the Engineering Manager & People Partner
  • Stage 3: 60 minute live technical challenge with the team
  • Stage 4: 60 minute case study with Product, the Engineering Manager & CTO
