The Capability Development Lead is responsible for building and delivering a firm‑wide, skills‑based capability approach across professional practice groups and central services teams. The role focuses on developing the behavioural, professional and leadership capabilities that underpin how people work, collaborate, supervise and lead - and that support high‑quality work, progression and client service.
You’ll define what good looks like for core behavioural and leadership skills at each role level and deliver practical learning experiences that build measurable, value‑creating capability. This work complements practice‑specific technical skills development, which is owned by subject matter experts and supported by learning colleagues.
The role includes facilitation of live workshops, programmes and learning sessions for senior professional and operational audiences. It does not design or deliver practice‑specific technical or substantive professional learning.
- Define behavioural, professional and leadership capability
- Develop and maintain firm‑wide behavioural, professional and leadership capability frameworks across all role levels
- Define clear standards for behaviours such as communication, collaboration, drafting clarity, supervision, professional conduct and leadership
- Ensure capability expectations support performance, progression and organisational culture
- Collaborate with professional and operational leaders to ensure frameworks remain relevant, practical and future‑focused
- Design and deliver practical, skills‑based learning
- Design and deliver behavioural, professional and leadership learning in areas such as communication, delegation, supervision, drafting clarity, stakeholder management and leadership effectiveness
- Develop leadership programmes for managers, senior professionals and operational leaders
- Facilitate live, skills‑based workshops and programmes for senior audiences
- Provide structured coaching or development conversations where appropriate
- Create blended learning experiences using modern learning approaches and skills‑based design principles
- Develop tools, templates and resources that support colleagues in applying new skills in day‑to‑day work
- Produce instructional designs, storyboards, scripts, case studies and practice tasks that support skills acquisition and behavioural change
- Translate capability expectations into learning designs suitable for digital, blended and live delivery
- Provide detailed design specifications to external suppliers to ensure accurate production of deliverables
- Evaluate, improve and embed capability
- Use performance insights, quality themes, feedback and people data to identify behavioural and leadership capability gaps
- Evaluate learning effectiveness based on capability uplift and observable behaviour change
- Work with leaders and managers to reinforce consistent application of behaviours and leadership practices across teams
- Continuously refine capability frameworks and learning approaches based on evidence and feedback
- Partner with learning colleagues to integrate behavioural and leadership skills into technical development pathways
- Collaborate with people and culture teams on leadership, performance, progression and organisational culture initiatives
- Build trusted relationships with senior leaders to ensure capability programmes meet business needs
What we are looking for:
- Experience building and delivering behavioural, professional or leadership development in professional services or similarly complex environments
- Are confident facilitating live workshops and programmes for senior audiences
- Can design practical, outcome‑focused learning using adult learning principles and behavioural science
- Have experience defining, embedding and measuring behavioural or leadership capability
- Communicate clearly and build strong relationships across professional and operational teams
- Are comfortable with blended, digital and hybrid learning approaches
- Can align capability development to organisational priorities and culture
