Description

Capital i is seeking experienced United Kingdom nationals to join our team as a Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) in support of the 48th Medical Group at RAF Lakenheath, a U.S. military installation.

The BMET performs maintenance, calibration, inspection, installation, and repair of a wide range of patient care medical equipment in a hospital setting. The BMET will work independently or with senior technicians to ensure all biomedical equipment meets operational, regulatory, and safety standards as outlined by the U.S. Department of Defense and local regulations.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex preventive maintenance, calibration, safety inspections, and repairs on a wide variety of medical equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications, OEM literature, and regulatory standards (e.g., Joint Commission, HSI).
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair biomedical systems and devices including (but not limited to): ventilators, infusion pumps, defibrillators, ECG machines, anesthesia systems, sterilizers, dental delivery systems, and patient monitoring systems.
  • Evaluate, test, and inspect new, used, and reconditioned medical equipment to determine serviceability and compliance with government standards before deployment or reuse.
  • Respond to unscheduled maintenance requests and emergencies to restore operational capability of patient care equipment.
  • Conduct installation, setup, and testing of medical equipment including hardware integration and basic network interfacing (LAN, Ethernet, fiber optic cabling), often in coordination with clinical IT or senior technicians.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed service records, work orders, parts requisitions, inventory tracking, and compliance documentation for equipment maintenance and inspections.
  • Ensure equipment and work practices meet safety and infection control protocols in all patient care areas; adhere to hazardous material handling and PPE requirements as necessary.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff (physicians, nurses, technicians) to provide in-service training and technical assistance on proper equipment use, troubleshooting, and safe operating procedures.
  • Recommend updates or corrections to manufacturer documentation and develop internal procedures where documentation is lacking or unclear.
  • Support physical inventory and equipment classification tasks, including equipment evaluation, decommissioning, and replacement recommendations.
  • Perform bench-level repairs on electro-mechanical and pneumatic medical equipment as needed.
  • Assist or lead in the installation and preventive maintenance of complex or integrated medical equipment systems under guidance from senior personnel when required.
  • Participate in facility inspections, audits, and compliance evaluations.
  • Stay current with developments in medical technology and applicable regulations; contribute to the continuous improvement of the facility’s medical maintenance program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Biomedical Equipment Repair Section at the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).

  • Some local travel between base facilities may be required (0-15%).

Qualifications

  • UK nationals only – must have legal right to work in the UK without employer-sponsored visa.
  • Associate’s degree or higher in Electronics Technology or Biomedical Equipment Technology, or equivalent military training (e.g., DoD BMET course).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in hospital or healthcare settings performing medical equipment maintenance.
  • Must provide up-to-date immunization records (Hepatitis A/B, MMR, Varicella, Influenza) (required prior to start).
  • Negative TB skin test (or chest X-ray if positive) within the last 12 months (required prior to start)
  • Physical health certification must confirm fitness for duty and absence of communicable disease (required prior to start).
  • Strong understanding of clinical environments and the impact of equipment performance on patient care.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic, electromechanical, and pneumatic medical devices.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access), internet applications, and Windows OS.
  • Must pass client background screening for access to U.S. military facilities.
  • Valid driver\’s license required (to operate government vehicles on base).
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (required prior to start).
  • Certification through AAMI (CBET) or DoD preferred.
  • Experience with U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) medical systems preferred.

Salary Range

  • £ 36.00 to £ 50.00 per hour.
