Capital Group are recruiting for an experienced Two-Man Dig Team to support our Electric Utilities Operations across the Southwest. You’ll be responsible for completing safe, compliant excavations to support cable installation, jointing works, and general utilities construction. Working as part of our expanding Electric division, you will help deliver high-quality excavation and reinstatement readiness across a busy programme of work.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out safe and compliant excavations for electric utilities works, including trenching, joint holes, trial holes, and ducting excavations
- Read and interpret job packs, permits, drawings, and utility plans before digging
- Identify and locate existing buried services using CAT Genny
- Ensure all excavations comply with NRSWA requirements, SROH standards, client specifications, and safety regulations
- Prepare and maintain excavations ready for backfill and reinstatement (clean edges, correct depths, clear spoil management)
- Work closely with supervisors, cable teams, and reinstatement crews to maintain smooth workflow
- Record site activities using handheld devices, including photos, measurements, and compliance notes
- Maintain tools, equipment, and plant (e.g., breakers, wackers, small tools) to ensure reliability and safety
- Keep sites clean, tidy, and compliant with permit conditions and traffic management rules
- Identify issues such as incorrect depths, buried hazards, poor ground conditions, or safety risks and report immediately
About You
You take pride in delivering accurate, safe, and efficient excavation work. You have strong awareness of underground services, understand utilities dig standards, and work well as part of a tight-knit two-person crew. Reliability, communication, and safety focus are essential.
Skills Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Two-Man Dig Team on utilities or highways projects
- Valid NRSWA Operative (Units 1–8)
- Experience reading job packs, utility drawings, and permits
- Skilled in hand digging, trench preparation, ducting support, and site safety
- Strong understanding of buried services, service avoidance, and excavation controls
- High attention to detail with a commitment to zero damage and safe digging practices
- Organised, punctual, and able to work independently across multiple daily sites
- At least one team member must hold a full UK driving licence
- CAT Genny experience (training advantageous if required)
