Capital Economics is one of the leading independent economic research companies in the world. Our team of economists provides award-winning macroeconomic, financial market and sectoral analysis, forecasts and consultancy, from offices in London, Toronto and Singapore. Clients include an array of asset managers, hedge funds, boutique family offices and leading investment banks. We are quoted extensively in the global media and frequently top polls of macro forecasts.

We are looking for someone to join our well-respected North America economics team in London or Toronto.

The key responsibilities are:

  • Contributing to our views on the US and Canada economies and housing markets
  • Generating our forecasts for the US and Canada economies and housing markets
  • Producing frequent high-quality written economic analysis for our clients, ranging from short notes published immediately after an event to longer, more detailed publications on issues that are likely to influence the economy over a number of years
  • Creating and maintaining interesting and insightful dashboards for our data platform
  • Presenting our views and forecasts directly to clients, either in person, virtually, by email, by phone or via our regular webinars
  • Interacting with the media to help build the Capital Economics brand and your own profile.

Requirements

The ideal candidate would have:

  • A strong academic background with, at least, a good undergraduate degree in economics or a closely related subject
  • A minimum of two to three years’ experience as a macroeconomist or analyst
  • A very strong ability to write clearly and concisely; the hiring process includes a writing assessment
  • Proven analytical and quantitative skills with great attention to detail
  • The ability to verbally present our views to clients/media in a clear and concise manner
  • Experience and knowledge of North America economies is preferable, but not essential
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
