Working outdoors at the Army Assessment Centre in Westbury, you’ll be part of the team responsible for preparing and maintaining the obstacle courses used during Officer selection. Your work will include setting up assessment obstacles, carrying out small repairs and upkeep, and completing general maintenance tasks such as weeding, gravel raking and painting to keep the site in top condition. This is a full time, permanent role working onsite at Westbury.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Setting up and laying out obstacles so assessment activities can run as planned
  • Being on hand during assessment days to fix or replace damaged or faulty equipment
  • Carrying out minor repairs, general maintenance and painting duties
  • Reporting damage and helping keep course areas safe, tidy and fit for purpose
  • Looking after tools, equipment and protective clothing issued to you
  • Covering for colleagues when needed during leave or sickness
  • Occasionally driving to deliver or collect equipment

You’ll work closely with your team and other onsite colleagues to make sure everything is ready, reliable and safe.

Essential qualifications/skills/experience:

  • A full UK driving licence
  • Confidence lifting, carrying and using basic machinery and tools
  • A practical, hands‑on approach to maintenance tasks
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Good communication skills and a positive, can‑do attitude
  • A strong team ethos, with the initiative to spot and fix problems

Desired qualification/skills/experience:

  • Previous experience in a grounds, estates or maintenance role would be desirable, not essential
