Job Description

What you’ll be doing
- Collaborate with other designers, product managers, developers, and other stakeholders to execute design solutions that meet user and business needs and technical constraints in an agile environment.
- Assess solution options and evangelise user-centered design solutions that both achieve strategic business goals and meet operational requirements.
- Controls, monitors, and evaluates content to ensure quality, consistency and accessibility of messages and optimal use of chosen media. Understands and manages risks associated with publishing content.
- Reviews work of others and takes responsibility for ensuring appropriate publication.
- Understand the requirements of the intended audience in collaboration with clients and/or representatives of the intended audience. Collaborate with subject matter experts to define specific content requirements.
- Manage the authoring process and the interaction with editorial and publication processes.
- Create a sustainable way to create consistent content such as style guides, content templates and frameworks.
- Create content governance plan and use guidelines in accordance to GDS best practices.
- Evangelise and promote cross‑collaboration to ensure effective outcomes within the given time frame with the end users in mind.
- Encourage ways to peer review to ensure quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead, plan and facilitate collaborative stakeholder and/or customer workshops that support and drive the project forward.
- Analyse data from user research with the user researcher(s) and make decisions on how to improve a product’s design.
- Assist in user research and usability testing, help maintain design consistency across platforms, participate in design reviews, and provide constructive feedback.
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and presentation skills to communicate with clients / project teams clearly and eloquently.
- Plan and drive content design activities, providing expert advice and guidance to support the adoption of agreed approaches.
What we are looking for
- Committed content designer with a proven track record, preferably working within local or central government or experience with complex systems.
- Works under general direction within a clear framework of accountability. Exercises substantial personal responsibility and autonomy. Plans own work to meet given objectives and processes.
- Work includes a broad range of complex technical or professional activities, in a variety of contexts. Investigates, defines and resolves complex issues.
- Familiarity of GDS, design thinking, UCD methodologies and principles, as well as social sciences.
- Strong understanding of applying a variety of content writing styles, content guidelines and how to create guidance for content.
- Strong understanding of the diversity of users and the need to make services, products, policies and designs usable and accessible for everyone.
- Communicates fluently, orally and in writing, and can present complex information to both technical and non‑technical audiences (external and internal clients).
- Applies active listening and emotional intelligence whilst communicating to colleagues and clients to build effective interactions.
- Champions collaboration between stakeholders who share common objectives.
- Plans, schedules and monitors work to meet time and quality targets.
- Rapidly absorbs new information and applies it effectively.
- Comprehends corporate processes, ways of working and shares a positive outlook.
- Maintains awareness of developing technologies and their application and takes some responsibility for driving own development.
- Driven and possess the skills to perform effectively both as an individual contributor and collaboratively in a group setting.
