Help get better trained personnel to the front line faster

Project Selborne is a Transformational Training programme with a strategic goal of modernising Royal Navy training to deliver “better trained sailors to the front line faster”.

We are seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated Navigation Instructor (WECDIS and Radar) to develop and deliver training programs for aspiring small coxswains, Warfare Officers and maritime navigators. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in maritime navigation, excellent communication skills, and a passion for teaching.

This role will be based at Dartmouth with regular travel (1-2 days a week) to HMS Raleigh

Due to the nature of this role, you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance at SC level.

Job Description:

What you’ll be doing

  • Developing and delivering comprehensive training programs on maritime navigation, including theoretical and practical components.
  • Providing hands-on training in the use of navigation equipment and technology.
  • Conducting assessments and evaluations to measure the effectiveness of training programs and make necessary improvements.
  • Mentoring and supporting trainees, providing guidance and feedback to help them succeed.
  • Staying up-to-date with industry trends and regulations to ensure training programs are current and relevant.
  • Collaborating with other trainers and industry professionals to develop new training materials and resources.

What we’re looking for

Essential Skills/Experience/Qualifications

  • Have completed and passed both modules of the Small Ships Navigation and Radar course or demonstrated experience and certification to a level superseding this course’s content, to the satisfaction of the MCA.
  • Be familiar with the simulator equipment and characteristics of the models in use, including the application of simulators in training.
  • [RYA/MCA] Yacht Master Offshore with Certificate of Competence.
  • Be able to obtain a Eng1 Medical certification

Desirable Skills/Experience/Qualifications

  • Level 3 teaching certificate or equivalent (will be enrolled on an internal training course if not held).
  • Knowledge/Experience in the military
  • STCW certificate

About Selborne

Selborne is a wide scale, 12 year transformation of Royal Navy Training. The contract worth GBP 1 billion was awarded in December 2020 to a consortium led by Capita to deliver and modernise training for the RN.
