Lead Instructor
We’re currently recruiting for a Lead Instructor who will be responsible for overseeing, implementing and delivering high quality and engaging practical instruction and training.
Responsibilities
- Oversees, implements and delivers sessions in line with approved standards documentation to ensure all learning outcomes are achieved and dynamically adapt lesson delivery to meet learners needs and course outcomes.
- Appropriately plan resource requirements for courses to ensure efficient and effective delivery.
- Organise and provide training support as a second instructor or safety instructor.
- Undertake practical assessment to confirm competence in specific task‑based skill.
- Takes a lead role as Subject Matter Expert in articulating ways to enhance and improve delivery and learner experience during course design, review and modernisation activities.
- Proactively maintains currency and competence of skills, qualifications and experience in line with technical experience and role requirements, and teaching and learning best practice to improve planning and delivery of teaching.
- Responsible for ensuring all staff are up to date with current safe systems ways of work and ensure delivery team are of the required standard, and responsible for conducting and adhering to risk assessment and reducing hazards.
- Provide oversight by undertaking annual peer observations, establish competency levels and endorse delivery when standards are completed.
Qualifications
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience in relevant technical fields.
- Education/Learning qualification relevant to role.
- Knowledge and experience to deliver peer observations.
- Experience of delivery training/instruction in similar environment.
- Ability and knowledge to plan course resource requirements, with experience of supervising a team.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience to respond to learners needs; professionally as a technical subject matter expert and educationally as a learning practitioner.
- Proactively contributes to and leads on the course design, review and modernisation activities in role of SME.
- Share peer to peer competency knowledge and best practice in accordance with skills, qualifications and experience or equivalent and competence package.

The Fire Service College (FSC) is a world‑renowned further education training college that provides a range of resilience focused courses and programmes ranging from apprenticeships to fully accredited qualifications. On a 300‑acre site FSC provides both practical and classroom‑based learning in addition to remote/customer site delivered courses.
