Help shape the next generation of Royal Navy engineers. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to make a lasting impact by mentoring and developing the next generation of Royal Navy engineers. You’ll use your industry expertise to coach trainees, helping them build essential engineering hand skills and confidence within a structured learning environment.

This is a training-focused role, but prior teaching experience is not required. Full teacher training delivered on site and ongoing support will be provided to help you succeed—what matters most is your passion, enthusiasm, and ability to engage and inspire learners throughout their journey.

What you will be doing:

  • Deliver high-quality training in Mechanical Craft and Fabrication, supporting trainees in developing core engineering competencies.
  • Introduce and develop practical hand skills, including fitting and filing.
  • Teach the interpretation and understanding of basic technical drawings.
  • Provide instruction on the safe use of workshop equipment.
  • Promote and embed strong workshop Health & Safety practices.
  • Support trainees’ progress through coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • A strong engineering background (mechanical or fabrication experience preferred) certified to a minimum of Level 3 or above.
  • Practical workshop experience and confidence using hand tools and machinery.
  • Proficient in the use of IT (hardware/software).
  • A willingness to learn and continuously develop as a trainer (full training provided).
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for developing others.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Level 3 Teaching Qualification / DCTS Defence Train The Trainer Course or equivalent (successful completion).
  • Previous instructional experience in a military or civilian engineering environment (ideally within last 5 years).

This role is offered on a term time basis working 45 weeks per year, with non-working weeks taken 2 weeks at Christmas and Easter and 3 weeks in August. The salary will therefore be pro rata’d and calculated to include contractual annual leave entitlement and bank holidays.
