Still love engineering, but ready for a change? If you’re a skilled fitter/turner or workshop engineer who enjoys the practical side of engineering but wants something more stable, rewarding, and with genuine work-life balance — this could be your next move. You don’t need any teaching experience. If you’ve got the hands-on skills, we’ll give you the rest — including full training and a recognised teaching qualification. This is your opportunity to pass on your knowledge, shape the next generation of Royal Navy engineers, and step into a role where your experience really counts.
What you’ll be doing:
- Deliver hands-on workshop training in fitting, turning, milling and general engineering skills
- Demonstrate techniques, guide trainees, and help them build confidence on the tools
- Support learners working towards recognised engineering qualifications
- Maintain workshop equipment and ensure safe working practices
- Share your real-world experience to bring learning to life
What we’re looking for:
We’re not looking for teachers — we’re looking for engineers. You’ll need (essential):
- A recognised apprenticeship (or equivalent experience) in fitting/turning or mechanical engineering
- Strong, recent hands-on workshop experience
- Skills across machining, fitting, milling, grinding
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Nice to have (but not essential):
- Any experience coaching, mentoring or helping others learn
- CAD knowledge
What you’ll get in return:
- Salary up to £42,000 (pro rata £41,265 term-time only)
- Term-time working (45 weeks) – enjoy extended breaks at Christmas, Easter & summer
- Full training + funded teaching qualification
- Onsite gym, catering, shops & free parking
- Flexible benefits + wellbeing support
- A genuinely rewarding role where you can make a difference
Why this role stands out:
- Move off the tools without losing your trade
- Better work-life balance than most engineering roles
- Use your experience to develop others
- Be part of a major Royal Navy training transformation programme
