Help get better trained personnel to the front line faster. Capita is the lead partner in the Fisher Training consortium who aim to transform and modernise the Royal Navy’s shore-based training across the UK under Project Selborne. Our training services cover both technical and tactical Naval training. This is delivered by Capita instructors and supported by teams who handle training planning, equipment, maintenance, and training design. We’re now moving into an exciting new phase with the launch of the Scheduling Optimisation Engine (SOE). This new digital tool will replace the current manual planning process, making training schedules faster, smarter, and more responsive—ultimately helping us get well trained personnel to the front line more quickly.

Your role will be to use the tool to create accurate training plans and schedules. You will help roll out the tool across Selborne courses by training others, work with the planning team to ensure quality, and share feedback on improvements or issues. This role is Fixed-term until March 2027.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Create accurate training schedules using the SOE tool and work with the Planning team to ensure quality.
  • Train new users across Selborne on how to use the SOE tool.
  • Support teams in moving from manual SOTT workflows to the automated SOE process.
  • Help embed the new SOE process, sharing feedback on improvements and reporting any issues.
  • Assist with the rollout of SOE across all SOTR-grouped Selborne courses and support UAT testing for new releases.
  • Report data issues (e.g., TAFMIS) to the Tiger team and collaborate with wider training support and project teams.

What we’re looking for:

Essential:

  • Analytical thinker with a pragmatic approach to problem solving.
  • Experience of working in fast paced roles and dealing with significant amounts of change.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in IT – Microsoft Office (M365) applications including Excel.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working alongside Agile project teams and using Agile management tools such as Devops or JIRA to track tasks.
  • Experience in training or supporting users of a new software application or process.
  • Experience of Training Planning, support processes and systems.
  • An understanding of TAFMIS applications and their synergies in the planning process.
  • Knowledge of JPA.
