Content Designer
As a Content Designer at Capita you will be responsible for taking a user need and presenting it in the right context, at the right time and in the right format. Your expertise will be demonstrated by crafting content solutions that guide and assist users, ensuring content is clear, consistent and accessible to all.
What you’ll be doing:
- Work with user researchers and designers to uncover user needs and ensure content is iterated and simplified to enhance the customer experience.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to define specific content requirements.
- Review designs or existing services and ensure content guidelines are followed, and where needed standardised and developed within the rest of the team.
- Ensure the importance of content framed around user needs is evangelised throughout the team, develop content that is accessible by default.
- Share your findings with the wider team in an engaging and collaborative way, choosing the right content type where needed (for example copy, infographics, charts or visual whiteboarding).
- Suggest where improved content can be integrated throughout the service, including UI copy, error messages, guidance help text, menu items, microcopy, supporting documentation and any other user touchpoints.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure that user-driven design and development is conducted throughout, and collaborating with SMEs to define specific content requirements, as well as participating in internal design crits and providing peer feedback.
- Present clear findings that clients/colleagues can understand and use.
- Suggest how research can be integrated through the development lifecycle and making recommendations on research strategies which follow best practices.
- Effectively work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure that user-driven design and development is conducted throughout.
- Align content design activities to inform decision making and action.
- Demonstrate some knowledge of the technologies used to build and operate digital services.
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and presentation skills to communicate with clients / project teams clearly and eloquently.
What we are looking for:
- Committed content designer with a proven track record, preferably working within local or central government or experience with complex systems.
- Contributes to the selection of the content design approaches for projects and initiatives. Supports the adoption of agreed approaches.
- Familiarity with GDS principles, design thinking, accessibility and user research.
- Experience working as part of a wider design team and within a multidisciplinary squad.
- Experience in receiving and giving feedback in an internal collaborative environment who take critique well as a chance to iterate and improve.
- Experience working with agile methodologies and within an agile team and user centred design and research practices and how to integrate them into the agile process.
- Strong understanding of content design best practices, and know when to challenge or simplify an approach, or challenge a known constraint.
- Strong communicator with a high level of confidence managing both internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority, and can bridge the gap between technical and non-technical discussions.
- Driven and possess the skills to perform effectively both as an individual contributor and collaboratively in a group setting.
