We’re looking for an experienced Project Manager to support the delivery of key projects within the Selborne programme — Capita’s flagship partnership providing specialist training solutions to the Royal Navy. This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of a high‑impact programme that strengthens defence capability across the UK.
As a Project Manager, you will drive project delivery day‑to‑day, ensuring clear objectives, structured governance and consistent progress against time, cost and quality commitments. While the role is predominantly home‑based, regular travel to Royal Navy sites (typically once a week or once a fortnight) is required as part of operational delivery.
This is a full-time role, 37.5 hours a week – Fixed Term until March 2027. The role is primarily home-based but there will be the need to travel to sites in either Fareham or Portsmouth.
Due to the nature of this role, you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance at SC level.
What you’ll be doing:
- Project Delivery & Ownership
- Overseeing the end‑to‑end delivery of assigned projects, ensuring outputs are met within agreed time, budget and quality constraints.
- Designing the project structure, controls and delivery methodologies appropriate to each stage.
- Managing delivery across multiple stakeholders, workstreams and technical contributors.
- Governance & Risk Management
- Leading effective governance, decision‑making and reporting processes.
- Identifying risks, issues and dependencies early and implementing mitigation plans.
- Supporting change control and ensuring documentation remains accurate and aligned to programme needs.
- Benefits, Transition & Quality
- Ensuring benefits are identified, understood and tracked through the full delivery lifecycle.
- Managing transitions between project phases and ensuring readiness for service.
- Maintaining clear performance reporting to sponsors and senior stakeholders.
- Stakeholder & Supplier Engagement
- Managing key stakeholder relationships — internal teams, client representatives and approved defence‑related third‑party suppliers.
- Ensuring all parties remain aligned to agreed outcomes and delivery expectations.
- Team Leadership
- Leading medium‑sized cross‑functional teams, setting clear direction and maintaining high performance.
- Deploying and developing resources effectively to support delivery.
- Defence Training Environment
- Working within Capita’s specialist training environment for the Royal Navy, supporting delivery of advanced training solutions and simulation‑based learning tools.
What we’re looking for:
- Essential:
- Proven Project Management experience with a track record of delivering complex projects to time, budget and quality.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple teams.
- Experience within defence, government, or similarly complex, regulated environments is highly advantageous.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability with sound decision‑making skills.
- Proficiency in project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
- Ability to work confidently in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to Royal Navy sites as an integral part of the role.
- Desirable:
- Background in defence, government, or similarly complex regulated sectors.
What’s in it for you?
- 23 days’ holiday (rising to 27) with the opportunity to buy extra leave.
- The opportunity to take a paid day out of the office, volunteering for our charity partners or a cause of your choice.
- Auto-enrolment to our company pension, life assurance, a cycle2work scheme, 15 weeks’ fully paid maternity, adoption and shared parental leave, paternity pay of two weeks and plenty more.
