HMS Excellent - Portsmouth
Due to the nature of this role, you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance at SC level.
Your role will be to deliver Naval Engineering Maintenance Administration training programmes in support of the Royal Navy Weapon Engineering (WE) Department. Your role as Safety Officer will be to ensure safe delivery of high-quality fire-fighting training, to perform the role of operating the Unit by computer or facilitating the training requirements within the Fire-fighting Facility wearing Breathing Apparatus (BA). You will also be required to ensure that you work in an effective collaborative manner with all staff, always displaying the appropriate behaviours.
This is a physically demanding role which can expose you to both a wet working environment and extremes of temperature, whilst wearing Breathing Apparatus and Fire Retardant Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
What you’ll be doing:
- Ensuring safe operation of training facilities at all times
- Completing relevant training operational documentation, as well as recording and reporting all deficiencies occurring during training.
- Shutting down and handing back the training area in accordance with laid down procedures.
- Ensuring Company health, safety and environmental procedures are implemented and complied with at all times.
- Ensuring that the equipment and materials in all areas are fit for purpose, maintained, cleaned and in date for safe operation.
- Ensuring that all staff and students are wearing PPE, clothing and any specialist equipment is suitable, in date and in accordance with regulations.
What we’re looking for:
Essential experience:
- Physically fit and able to wear Breathing Apparatus (BA).
- Good communication skills both verbal and written.
- A team player.
- A flexible "can do" approach to work.
- Demonstrate proficiency in using IT equipment in the workplace.
Desirable experience:
- First Aid at Work Qualified or equivalent.
- Demonstrable experience and understanding of regulatory requirements and commitment to compliance within a highly regulated SHE workplace.
- IOSH Working Safely.
- Professional Qualification in the education/training sector DTC Defence Training Course or equivalent.
- STCW MCA qualified in Fire Prevention and Firefighting.
- Experience within the Maritime Sector Military or Civilian.
