Help get better trained personnel to the front line faster. Project Selborne is a Transformational Training programme with a strategic goal of modernising Royal Navy training to deliver "better trained sailors to the front line faster". You will provide high quality and engaging IGCSE and Functional Skills English tuition ensuring individuals achieve the educational attainment necessary to commence or complete their training and achieve the necessary educational qualifications for promotion. You will also support neurodivergent (ND) learners and those with Specific Learning Differences (SpLDs) throughout their learning journey and time in service. This is a part time role working 21 hours a week - days/hours flexible.

What you will be doing:

  • Deliver and tailor English tuition (IGCSE, Functional Skills, Education for Promotion) to meet individual learner needs, including creating learning plans and accommodating neurodiversity/SpLD requirements.
  • Support learner progress through personal tutoring, maintaining records, preparing for assessments like the Admiralty Interview Board, and coordinating with other tutors and support personnel.
  • Manage and support examinations, including administrative tasks and invigilation in line with exam board regulations.
  • Engage in professional development and participate in quality assurance activities such as teaching observations and inspections to maintain high teaching standards.
  • Identify and support neurodiverse individuals by conducting screenings, recommending further assessments, and developing tailored learning plans.
  • Coordinate exam support by processing access arrangements and concessions for internal and external assessments.
  • Advise and collaborate with tutors, managers, and support staff to improve inclusive practices and workplace support for individuals with SpLD.

What we're looking for:

  • Hold a Level 3 or above teaching qualification.
  • Hold a minimum of level 3/A level in English.
  • Be proficient in the use of IT, including Microsoft Office applications (M365) and learning technologies.
  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels.
  • Ability to gain UK SC clearance.

Desirable Skills/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Have membership of, or be willing to join a recognised relevant Professional Body with the purpose of supporting learners affected by neurodiversity/SpLD.
  • Hold or be willing to work a Level 5 qualification in assessing Specific Learning Differences.
  • Hold or be willing to work towards a Level 5 Coaching qualification.

Selborne is a wide scale, 12 year transformation of Royal Navy Training. The contract worth GBP 1 billion was awarded in December 2020 to a consortium led by Capita to deliver and modernise training for the RN.
