Role Title: Java Backend Engineer
Location: Manchester
Work setup: 3-4 days onsite/week
We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Get Help engineering team, responsible for building and enhancing digital client servicing capabilities across web, chat, voice, and contact centre channels.
You will work as part of a cross-functional Agile team delivering scalable, resilient, and secure backend services that support millions of client interactions. The role offers the opportunity to work with modern cloud technologies, conversational AI solutions, CRM integrations, and contact centre platforms while helping shape the future of digital client support.
This is an ideal role for an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, building robust services, and collaborating closely with product, architecture, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and support backend applications and APIs.
- Build scalable integrations between internal and external platforms.
- Contribute to the development of chatbot, voicebot, authentication, and digital servicing capabilities.
- Support cloud-native application development and deployment.
- Participate in technical design discussions and solution shaping.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Architects, QA Engineers, and other developers.
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable solutions.
- Contribute to engineering standards, code quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support CI/CD pipelines and automated testing practices.
- Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the team.
Required Experience
- Experience developing backend applications in Java, Node.js, or similar enterprise technologies.
- Experience building RESTful APIs and integration services.
- Understanding of microservices and distributed systems.
- Experience working within Agile delivery teams.
- Knowledge of source control, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
Preferred Experience
- Cloud experience (AWS preferred).
- Experience integrating with SaaS and enterprise platforms.
- Exposure to contact centre technologies such as Genesys.
- Experience supporting Conversational AI, chatbot, or voicebot solutions.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures and serverless technologies.
- Experience operating services in production environments.
