We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the design, development, integration, and lifecycle management of complex Air Traffic Management Systems.
You will apply rigorous systems engineering practices to ensure the safe, secure, and efficient operation of ATM infrastructure that is critical to national and international aviation safety.
In this role, you will work with our customer stakeholders, industry partners and specialist engineers to elicit requirements, specify solutions and resolve problems, helping to protect and advance one of the world's most important infrastructure domains.
Our systems engineering practices are developed to deliver high integrity systems that meet exacting industry standards, using established and emerging technologies and techniques such as mathematical modelling, digital visualisation, AI LLM assistance, and our own REVEAL® requirements engineering method and MBSE framework.
As a Senior Systems Engineer within Capgemini you will work with our customer and industry partners on a programme of national importance to support and improve UK ATM infrastructure.
You will be given the opportunity to grow and take on responsibility from day one in a challenging and rewarding customer‑facing environment.
- What you’ll do
- This is a customer focussed role, so you will need to explore and understand our customer’s domain, needs and programme, including legacy systems, systems context and target value
- You will be a proactive senior systems engineering lead with responsibility for understanding and specifying aspects of the problem and solution.
Your responsibilities include defining and planning the systems engineering needed to derive definitive specifications from high level requirements, and leading a small, multi‑disciplined team of systems engineers, and domain and engineering specialists to deliver this.
Your work will include
- Being the engineering point of contact for aspects of the problem and solution
- Engaging with stakeholders and specialists at a range of organisational levels
- Managing team delivery to quality, schedule and budget
- analysing and modelling large data sets, documents and legacy systems, with the help of AI LLM assistants
- specifying solutions and establishing traceability using our (ISO 15288 aligned) requirements and MBSE frameworks
- You will work in a multi‑disciplinary team to specify and integrate complex safety‑critical systems.
This will require you to understand and evaluate ATM operational processes and use‑cases, and non‑functional system properties such as safety, security, reliability, maintainability, and usability
- In addition to your customer‑focussed role, you will contribute to Capgemini Engineering by developing strong client relationships and domain knowledge, using collaborative ways of working and mentoring team members, contributing to capability development
Your Profile
- Engineering or science degree, with substantial experience (10+ years) delivering high‑integrity systems engineering projects in a regulated industry.
- Strong knowledge of relevant industry‑standards and systems engineering processes across the full lifecycle, including requirements management, system specification, verification & validation and systems integration.
- Experience in customer‑facing, systems engineering lead roles to deliver safety‑critical systems
- Demonstrated ability to build strong customer relationships, with proven stakeholder management and experience leading teams to deliver high‑value outcomes.
- Hands‑on experience in stakeholder management, requirements management, authoring natural language specifications, the use of MBSE (Sys ML/UML) and systems integration.
- Ability to work effectively and autonomously in collaborative, multi‑disciplinary environments with strong communication, influencing, and presentation skills
- Experience in Air Traffic Management systems
- Proficiency with deploying and using Sparx Enterprise Architect
- Experience using Sys ML or UML
- Professional Systems Engineering certification (e. g. INCOSE CSEP/ESEP), or a clear desire to work towards it.
- Chartered Engineer status, or active progress toward achieving chartership.
If you're excited about this role but don’t meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply, your unique experience could be just what we need.
