Mechanical Design Engineer Guildford Permanent – On site 4 days a week We are currently looking for Design Engineers to join us on a permanent basis to work on site in Guildford 4 days a week. Key Purpose of Job We are looking for motivated Mechanical Design Engineers to support current and future flight spacecraft projects. You will support the design of new structures and the integration of sub-systems from concepts through to final designs. The role will include mechanical design, systems integration and build support activities. You work closely with project managers, system engineers, manufacturing and senior/ principal analysts. Key Tasks * Design of components/ systems to fulfil customer requirements using 3D modelling tools and techniques * Completion of manufacturing drawings to enable component procurement and support of manufacturing activities and inspections * Documenting and implementing design changes using Engineering Change Notices * Writing detailed assembly procedures and technical build information * Undertake integration of the mechanical components/assemblies in clean room facilities * Creating and maintaining build logs * Creating BoM’s and managing/inputting into MRP systems * Support design of electronics enclosures, generate PCB board outlines and liaise with the electrical design team to ensure compatibility with printed circuit assemblies * Other Requirements: * Flexibility and willingness to support other teams/ disciplines within the department in areas such as Propulsion, Mechanisms and Optical Instruments * Flexibility to support at more than one site on occasion PERSON SPECIFICATION (essential requirements) Nationality Eligible to live and work in the UK and gain security clearance up to SC level Qualifications A good degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Experience Proven and relevant experience, preferably in the space industry although this is not essential. Practical experience in support of mechanical build and testing activities an advantage Knowledge & Skills * Competent use of SolidWorks CAD package is essential and familiarity with MRP systems is an advantage * Specifying/ identifying appropriate materials, surface treatments and finishes for mechanical component design in aerospace applications * Electrical harness design and integration experience * Good attention to detail * Understanding of Spacecraft Systems an advantage * Understanding of production and manufacturing methods * Competent use of Microsoft Office suite including Outlook * Understanding of the challenging design environment of space * Good communication skills and the ability to generate technical documentation * Good practical skills with assembly and integration experience * Proven ability to deliver solutions under pressure and to tight timescales * Experience drawing checking and release Don’t meet every single requirements?
