Our client in Newry is currently seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join their maintenance team. This is a permanent position offering a strong salary, job security, and the opportunity to work with a modern fleet of heavy vehicles and equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, and repair of HGVs and heavy plant equipment, ensuring vehicles are kept to a high standard of safety and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance on HGVs and heavy equipment
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults
  • Perform breakdown repairs in a workshop environment (and occasional field work if required)
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety regulations
  • Maintain accurate service and repair records
  • Work closely with fleet and operations teams to minimise downtime

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic / Heavy Equipment Mechanic
  • Relevant mechanical qualifications (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent preferred)
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Experience working with heavy vehicles, plant, or construction equipment
  • HGV licence desirable but not essential
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
