We are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer-Equipment to lead the procurement of key electrical and mechanical equipment packages across renewable energy projects. This is a commercially and technically focused role, responsible for managing the full procurement lifecycle, from supplier engagement and tendering through to negotiation and contract execution. The role requires close collaboration with engineering, project delivery, legal, and finance teams to ensure commercial alignment and risk mitigation. This is not a transactional buying position; the successful candidate will contribute to category strategy, supplier relationship management, and overall procurement governance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead sourcing, tendering, evaluation, and negotiation of major equipment packages (modules, inverters, transformers, HV/MV switchgear, BESS systems, etc.)
  • Develop and implement category strategies aligned with market trends, pricing, and supply chain risks
  • Manage supplier pre-qualification and Approved Vendor Lists (AVL)
  • Negotiate and manage equipment supply contracts, including warranties, performance guarantees, LDs, and Incoterms
  • Identify and mitigate commercial risks such as currency exposure, lead times, and supplier performance
  • Ensure alignment with contractual frameworks (NEC, FIDIC, bespoke agreements)
  • Build and maintain relationships with key OEMs and suppliers across the UK and Europe
  • Monitor market conditions, pricing trends, and supply chain dynamics
  • Manage supplier performance against KPIs throughout project delivery
  • Work closely with engineering teams to align specifications and drive value engineering
  • Support early-stage project development with procurement input (budget pricing, lead times, feasibility)
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of procurement processes and systems

Key Requirements

Essential:

  • Proven procurement experience within the renewable energy sector (solar, BESS, or wind)
  • Strong technical understanding of key equipment packages (modules, inverters, transformers, switchgear, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end procurement of high-value contracts
  • Strong commercial negotiation and contract management skills
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation and collaborate with engineering teams

Desirable:

  • Experience in co-located solar + BESS projects
  • Knowledge of UK grid connection and DNO processes
  • Familiarity with procurement systems (SAP Ariba, Oracle, Procore, etc.)
  • MCIPS qualification or equivalent

Skills & Attributes

  • Commercially astute with strong negotiation capability
  • Analytical and data-driven approach to procurement
  • Confident communicator across technical and commercial stakeholders
  • Able to manage multiple workstreams in a project-driven environment
  • Strong interest in the energy transition and renewable infrastructure
