Responsibilities:

  • Interview patients and/or patient representatives to obtain required registration information, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity of the hospital information system.
  • Coordinate and communicate registration, admission, and pre-admission activities with relevant hospital departments to support safe and effective patient care.
  • Maintain organized files and records related to orders, payer authorizations, schedules, and other department-specific documents.
  • Contact patients, insurers, and employers to verify insurance benefits, obtain referrals, and pre-certifications, aiming for maximum hospital reimbursement.
  • Verify benefits using insurance systems, document complete information, and ensure maximum allowable reimbursement.
  • Attend departmental meetings and stay updated on policies to optimize reimbursement processes.
  • Process admissions, discharges, and transfers efficiently, ensuring timely patient placement.
  • Explain and process patient payments, including estimates, co-pays, and deductibles, following department procedures.
  • Provide patients with information on relevant forms and financial issues, referring to Financial Counselors when appropriate.
  • Deliver excellent service to patients, families, visitors, volunteers, and coworkers.
  • Check in and transcribe orders in the HIS system and schedule patient visits as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate with the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Typing speed of at least 25 WPM demonstrated via timed test.
  • Proficiency in computer skills relevant to the role.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Terminology course within the last five years or passing a Medical Terminology challenge exam.
  • Ability to work independently and handle pressure effectively.
