Must be courteous to patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, and other employees of the organization. Assumes responsibility for assigned areas of laboratory activity. Maintains proficiency and performs diagnostic tests in blood bank, hematology, serology, chemistry, coagulation, clinical microscopy, and bacteriology. Carries out and initiates follow-up of organic and inorganic diagnostic tests. Draws venous or capillary blood from inpatients and outpatients as required. Packages specimens together with pertinent information. Arranges for delivery to reference laboratory. Prioritises requests according to need and condition. Records and checks results of tests. Ensures prompt transmittal of accurate reports and test results to physicians and nursing units. Ensures proper reporting of charges and billing information for all services. Completes periodic proficiency survey tests for unknown samples submitted for analysis and completes required reports. Prepares and sets up equipment for tests. Assures proper calibration of equipment. Performs and records daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checks of all laboratory equipment. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field of clinical laboratory procedures, techniques, and equipment. Must wear facility provided identification badge at all times. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

MLT Job Code: 0040 Associate’s degree in science from an accredited institution and completion of an approved medical technician internship program. ASCP eligible. Computer skills preferred.
MT Job Code: 0038 Bachelor’s degree or higher in Medical/Clinical Laboratory science, Medical Technology, Biology, Microbiology, or Chemistry from an accredited institution and completion of an approved Medical Technology internship program. ASCP or equivalent certification required within six (6) months of hire. HEW certification acceptable. Computer skills preferred.
Purpose of Position: Under the general direction of the Laboratory Manager, plans, sets up, carries out, and evaluates diagnostic laboratory tests and procedures. Performs phlebotomy duties.
Schedule Details: Per Diem Hours, Day/Evening/Night shifts, Occasional weekends.
