Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Reviews and processes departmental order requests.
- Prepares medications for distribution to the patient care units.
- Distributes medications to the patient care units.
- Orders medications from various suppliers.
- Prepares parenteral products.
- Maintains the medication inventory, places orders in stock, checks expiration dates, processes returns as needed.
- Trains and orients new pharmacy support personnel.
- Billing and other pharmacy duties that do not require a pharmacist.
- Maintains appropriate records and regulatory documentation.
- Pre-packaging and labeling of bulk medications to unit dosed containers/packaging.
- Answers telephone, directing phone calls appropriately and diverts all medication/clinical inquiries to the Pharmacist.
- Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and coworkers.
- Maintains cleanliness of the department.
- Performs other work related duties as assigned.
Additional Inpatient Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician Duties And Responsibilities
- Obtains patient medication orders for medication reconciliation duties to input into MAR.
- Prepares chemotherapy and dosage calculation checks.
Requirements
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Massachusetts state registration as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification or equivalent certification.
- One-year recent experience (within the past 3 years) as a Pharmacy Technician; 3 years preferred, OR PTCB certification or equivalent certification as an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
- Duties require very good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
