Personal Injury Solicitor / Chartered Legal Executive Nottingham | £40,000-£55,000 DOE | Hybrid Working | 1-5 PQE
I'm working with a well-established, highly regarded law firm in Nottingham city centre that is looking to recruit a Personal Injury Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive to join its growing team.
I've recently spoken at length with the two Directors who head up the department, and there are some genuinely attractive aspects to this opportunity, particularly for someone who enjoys claimant PI work but wants a more manageable caseload, a good work-life balance and the opportunity to progress.
The opportunity
This is a growth hire rather than a replacement. The team is busy, generates its own work and has developed a particularly strong reputation in niche areas of personal injury.
You’ll be handling a varied caseload of claimant EL/PL matters, including accidents at work, public liability claims, dog bites and injuries arising from beauty and cosmetic treatments.
The work is predominantly Fast Track, with some Multi-Track exposure depending on your experience. There is no RTA work.
One of the things I particularly liked about the team is that fee earners handle their cases from initial instruction through to conclusion, rather than files being passed between different departments as they progress.
Why is this worth considering?
- Manageable caseloads: Typically around 75-100 files, allowing you to give cases the attention they deserve rather than managing an excessive volume of claims.
- Genuine work-life balance: The Directors are very clear that they don't expect people to routinely work evenings or weekends. The focus is on working efficiently during normal working hours.
- Hybrid working: Three days in the Nottingham office and two from home following an initial office-based training and probationary period. There is also flexibility around start and finish times.
- Career progression: Both Directors have worked their way up internally, and there are genuine opportunities for someone looking to develop a long-term career with the firm.
- A close-knit team: You’ll be joining a small, experienced and supportive department where you’ll work closely with the Directors and have a real say in how things are done.
- Varied, interesting work: Alongside traditional EL/PL claims, the team has developed specialist areas that offer something a little different from the usual high-volume PI environment.
Who are they looking for?
Ideally, you’ll be a qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with litigation rights and around 1-5 years’ PQE, although relevant experience is more important than a specific number of years.
You’ll need a solid grounding in claimant personal injury, particularly EL/PL, and be comfortable managing litigated cases with a reasonable degree of independence.
Multi-Track experience would be advantageous, but it isn’t essential. The Directors are happy to provide support and help someone develop, provided they already have a good understanding of PI litigation.
Salary and working arrangements
- Salary: Circa £40,000-£55,000, depending on experience
- Location: Nottingham city centre
- Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
- Hybrid: Three days in the office and two from home
- Flexible start and finish times
- Established team with long-term progression opportunities
